Pathetic Bilbao leave Keevins clutching at straws as his Europa League dream is killed off by the Catalan Matalans

Hugh Keevins was left with paella over his cardigan last night as Pathetic Bilbao killed off his dream of seeing James Tavernier lift the Europa League next month.

The veteran reporter has been tipping all manner of glory for the Ibrox Tribute Act since he sat alongside Derek Johnstone discussing how many points ahead of Brendan Rodgers Mark Warburton would finish at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Celtic finished that season 39 points ahead of their city ‘rivals’, Rodgers took the club to an invincible treble while Warburton resigned in fear at Ibrox in February 2017 before being sacked later that year by Nottingham Forest.

After putting his faith in Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Micky Beale and Phil Clement to end Celtic’s domination Keevins is on board the Barry Bus being steered by Keith Jackson, the man that broke the WORLD EXCLUSIVE over the takeover from the San Francisco 49GERS.

On Sunday Keevins was in his pomp, bizarrely dubbing a club from the north of Spain as the Matalan Catalans before spelling out his dream of how Ferguson’s Europa League triumph would wipe away the pain of another Celtic treble.

Pathetic Bilbao, otherwise known as the Matalan Catalans, will go out of Europe by losing to Rangers in the Basque country next Thursday night.

And, by virtue of their obvious ineptitude, forfeit the chance to contest the Europa League final inside their own stadium next month.

Celtic, who could be crowned Premiership champions for the fourth time in a row if Rangers should lose to Aberdeen at Pittodrie, run the risk of possibly winning the Treble for a world record-breaking ninth time and being the runners-up in the story of the season competition.

In a season in which Rangers have suffered the worst result in their history, losing to Queens Park in the Scottish Cup, and assembled the longest run of home defeats since the club began 153 years ago, the chances are Barry Ferguson will bring a European trophy to Ibrox.

I was laughed at for saying Rangers, in the midst of a domestic season that diminished their reputation, would make the Europa League final at the end of a season which began when they couldn’t make a shipment of building materials turn up on time to renovate a stand.

But some things are bigger than all of us, and fate is one of them.

Rangers progress in Europe looks to be pre-ordained because it has nothing to do with the reality of the situation, which is that Ferguson was put in interim charge because Philippe Clement was running the team, and the club, into the ground.

And Ferguson is continuing that work alongside two media darlings in Billy Dodds and Neil McCann by his side.

Four wins in 10 matches is poor by any standard, Ferguson hasn’t won a single match at Ibrox and is currently on a run of four matches without a victory. Two goals have been lost in all six domestic matches.

It looks like the fakeover from the San Francisco 49GERS is all that Keevins has left to hang onto for this season- with Celtic eight days away from winning #title55 it looks like a long summer of misery for all at the Daily Record.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

Wee bazza stated after his lastl league home defeat that he knew what he had to do and it wouldn’t be pretty .
He is in full on Wattichencho mode now .

In his eyes a return to anti football is the answer to all Sevcos woe’s.

A throw back to the glory days of yore .

Let’s not mention the wholesale cheating going on in these days of yore (mibs and tax evasion contracts ) let’s just reminisce about the wins .

If we thought they were a kick and rush team before then if Bawry gets the gig we ain’t seen nothing yet

  • Frank Duffy says:

That ignoramous Keevins needs to be reminded, the current squad of Pathetic Bilbao, or The Catalan Matalans as he disparagingly referred to them as, are currently valued at €367 million. Whereas his Govan Galacticos are valued at a mere €79.45 million. Both values are from Transfermarkt. Although, I’d profer, the majority of the huns value is in loan players who will scuttle away at the end of the season!

I predict a doom laden Celtic headline in his forthcoming Sunday column ,,

‘ Will the Celtic dominance continue when the 49ers come ? ‘

‘ Rodgers is looking bored and must be looking for a new adventure ‘

    Something along those lines

You could set your watch to this dreadful old prick

  • Bob (original) says:

    Keevins should simply be ignored?

All he’s got – and all he’s ever had – are controversial comments to get a reaction.

Everybody clearly sees his disreputable and dishonest ‘journalism’.

Has that hateful wee soup taker ever got a prediction right?
How can anyone who claims to be a sports journalist and pundit get so much wrong so much of the time and still be considered good enough to comment?
If that were any other job he would’ve been oot the door yonks ago.
He offers absolutely nothing, except barbed narrative aimed at us.
That’s obviously all that is required at the national broadcaster to get a regular paycheck.
Week in week out he sits there spewing out shite, you cudny mark his neck.
