Daily Record circulation crash on the back of the San Francisco 49GERS takeover

Even Daily Record readers are growing sick of the so-called takeover launched by Keith Jackson with a WORLD EXCLUSIVE two months ago.

During February the Record was selling an average of 43,342 copies every day, people paying out £1.70 to read yesterday’s news with that unique Record slant.

Despite takeover tales and historic wins away to Fenerbahce and Celtic the figure for March dropped to just 41,676.

During that month alone 1,666 people decided to keep their money in their pocket rather than splash out on the Record.

A 3.8% drop in circulation is way above the norm, with so few buyers out there it is difficult to lose so many in one month.

It seems that the Record’s once fabled Army of Readers are deserting in droves, getting their news from elsewhere as another fakeover bites the dust alongside Scotland’s Most Successful Club closing in on a sixth treble in nine seasons.

Not even replacing the Barry Ferguson column with the thoughts of Scott Arfield has convinced readers to stick around.

The Record is pushing hard on the digital side to make an impact but it is hard to see matey jokes from the Sports Desk lads appealing much to a younger audience.

The 6pm Hotline Podcast attracts around 3,000 views per show, out of his bedroom in Australia Hamish Calton is pulling in 9,000 views from his Celtic AM  slot.

April and May circulation looks like becoming a nightmare for the Record as Celtic look to win another treble.

It is looking very likely that circulation will be below 40,000 a day as they cover the Scottish Cup Final without their favoured club.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

Somewhere in this FAKEOVER FAKE NEWS story is someone called COMICAL ALI there must be.
When the FAKE NEWS first broke push came to shove and it was put out there that talks had been ongoing since October 2024 but only came to light through the media in February, when the league has gone as well as both cups.

Then the ALKIE Tam Shepherd journalist Jackass Jackson kept moving the goalposts from February FAKEOVER to March then the end of April, now sevco are out of Europe it’s been put out there it will be June, funny how they kept dragging different dates out month to month now it’s June way by the end if the season, but hey season books sold job done, and the imaginary FAKEOVER which never was I’m the first place.

Think on it,what company or consortium is sitting back watching a klub doing more TAPPING than a blind man’s stick on a monthly basis at £5 million a pop to get by each month would want to buy into that shite, they couldn’t give it away, and the klowns in the press are running with £70 -£100 million being splashed to buyout the board, then clearing whatever heavy duty amount there is of that, then bringing in their own manager with his backroom team, and then there is improvements to the stadium and then the upgrade of the state of the art training complex with a world class breakfast, and eventually getting shot of the dross there on big money contracts and bringing in a new pool of players.

    BOOM!

Soon be time for the rag tabloid daily Record to raise its price for its daily dosage of clickbait tales and second hand news items for it’s dozens of uber loyal readers ? 3 times a year their daily price gets increased …all for the same old ..same old ! Don’t forget those friendly bosses at the daily Record decided to raise the cost of a daily newspaper , back in the middle of the COVID 19 world pandemic ? That’s how much they think and care for their scores of faithful readers !

Personally, I cannot wait for this unionist rag to bite the dust. Even the peepul are deserting it in droves.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Me as well Dougie – Me as well…

Not so sure about The Huns deserting it (although the figures show it) – My reasoning is that hundreds off them are always quoting from it on Wallow Wallow…

Anyway lovely figures for sure and long may that beautiful downward trajectory continue !

What’s interesting about that Circulation table above,

is that 4 publications actually had positive growth in the month.

Ok, could be a different story for the year as a whole, but I just presumed that

all publications’ circulations were falling relentlessly – every month.

So, there seems to be some scope for publications to at least, slow their decline?

However, The DR decline seems to be rapidly accelerating?

Looks like Reach plc has already written off The DR, with no effort at all

to make any significant changes or improvements.

Punting Jackson and Keevins, and bringing in ‘proper’ sports journalists,

might have helped: but both could/should have been punted back in 2012 anyway!

The DR won’t be missed. 🙂

Great to see wont be missed when it goes
