With Hibs winning 2-0 at Ibrox today Celtic are two victories away from being champions of Scotland for a 55th time.
It was the fifth successive away win at Ibrox which leaves Celtic six points away from making it 4-in-a-row in terms of SPFL Premiership title.
After eight minutes a long throw into the penalty box was cleared to Dylan Levitt, the midfielders low shot was close to Jack Butland but flew into the net as the keeper tried in vain to keep it out.
Barry Ferguson’s side had the bulk of first half possession but their only chances seemed to fall to Cyriel Dessers who was having an off day.
In the 69th minute a low pass out of defence found Martin Boyle racing clear on goal, he took his time then placed the ball between Butland’s legs and into the net.
The assistant referee raised his flag but after a VAR check it was clear that Boyle was on the half way line when the pass was struck.
Seven minutes’ stoppage time were added, but there were less than 5,000 home fans inside Ibrox as the final whistle blew.
If Celtic beat St Johnstone tomorrow they will go 16 points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership table.
Following that with a win at home to Kilmarnock next Saturday would put the hoops 19 points ahead with Ferguson taking his side to Aberdeen the following day, inbetween two matches against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League.
