Keith Jackson takes his anger out on Andrew Cavenagh as his Takeover dream stalls

Keith Jackson is growing increasingly concerned over the Ibrox takeover which he revealed was at an advanced stage on February 19.

The veteran Daily Record reporter couldn’t hold back when he revealed his WORLD EXCLUSIVE- blasting out the key message of transformative change, multi-million pound investment and of course a spending splurge in the summer transfer market.

Two months down the line virtually nothing has happened other than an American guy turning up for some VIP treatment at soccer matches.

Other than nine words mumbled to Sky Sports Andrew Cavenagh hasn’t said a word, in the good old days a sit down with the Record would be essential for any prospective owner- spelling out spending plans, increasing the stadium capacity and turning Ibrox into the entertainment capital of Europe generating profits to leave Celtic scrambling about for consolation prizes.

Jackson has given everything to pushing the takeover through (except making that fateful phone call to Douglas Park, the destroyer of Dave King’s dream) with the added bonus of getting Barry Ferguson the job that they both dream of.

Cavenagh is giving off all the signals of being a major tyre-kicker, with Jackson, a veteran of dining out on Dave Murray and Craig Whyte struggling to hold back his frustrations.

Anxiety and concern is all over his Monday morning column in the Record:

To be frank, Cavenagh and his legal team are making it more difficult with each day that passes without the paperwork being signed, sealed and rubber stamped on this impending takeover.

While Rodgers will already have one eye fixed firmly on what he needs to improve his team over the summer and will have placed his irons in the fire, Rangers are stuck in a state of almost perpetual flux.

If they are not hunting for new managers, they’re rebuilding entire squads and now they’re changing owners into the bargain.

But Cavenagh – who was back in Scotland last week – will have to get a move on if he is to conclude this buy out and still have enough time left over to put a proper strategy in place for the coming campaign.

With that in mind he could do himself a favour by sitting Ferguson and his coaching staff down, offering them one year rolling contracts and asking them to put their own plans into practice in terms of recruitment.

But the longer that conversation doesn’t take place the less chance there is that it ever will.

After naming duds like Danilo, Oscar Cortes, Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland as having no part to play in the Ferguson Revolution Jackson returned to the need for his Record colleague to get the job on a permanent basis- mainly to keep him in the news loop until Ferguson gets the Clement/Beale/van Bronckhorst treatment.

Despairingly he concluded with:

If Ferguson was properly empowered to start putting his plans in place for next season then it’s probable that some if not all of these players would have been told already to get their agents on the case.

But, the longer Cavenagh’s takeover rolls on without a decision made on the manager, the more likely it is that they’ll be back again in time for pre-season training when they could become someone else’s problem.

And the more certain it is that next season will end the same old way that it always does. With another party in the Celtic Park car park.

Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell, Ben Davies and Rabi Matondo will be back for pre-season training whoever is in charge.

A £4m deal is already in place for Cortes while Bajrami and Danilo are on long term deals with the Brazilian striker sitting on a contract that runs until May 2028.

Eight weeks into the story no-one from the Record has contacted Park, the second biggest shareholder in the club about his level of excitement for the takeover with the fingerprints of former Chairman King all over it.
