Kris Boyd has named £19m of Ibrox duds.
The good news is that they are all on long term contracts, all of them will be draining the wage bill next season unless Kevin Thelwell can find a way of offering the sort of sweeteners that got rid of Connor Goldson and Todd Cantwell last season.
Thelwell doesn’t yet have a start date but is expected to arrange an exciting new management team, bring in a whole new squad of stars and sell the serial losers that have delivered one League Cup over the last three years of Celtic domination.
Naturally Boyd sees the appointment of a Sporting Direct as inspired with the new man expected to work on the war-chest that will accompany the American consortium following the publication of the words productive and conversations.
Looking at future spending Boyd tells Sun readers:
The claim that Rangers haven’t spent money is a total myth.
In fact, one thing the outgoing board can’t be accused of is not backing managers.
Look at the current squad. Nedim Bajrami, Danilo, Mohamed Diomande and Ridvan Yilmaz cost the guts of £15million.
Add in the £4m or so that Rangers will have to pay to sign Oscar Cortes permanently and you see my point.
Other squad players are on inflated wages that they will never get anywhere else.
Too often, Rangers have spent money on the wrong players. That has to change this summer.
Bajrami was signed in August 2024 as was Diomande on a permanent basis, Danilo signed a five year contract in July 2023 with Yilmaz signed in August 2022. After two loan spells Cortes will sign a permanent move in the summer.
Thelwell will also have to work with Ben Davies, Kieran Dowell, Rabbi Matondo and Jose Cifuentes when they return from loan deals in the summer.
Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Leon Balogun are out of contract with the loan deal for Vaclav Cerny expiring.

Spending money on the wrong people, getting inflated wages they won’t get elsewhere you could say sky sports are just as guilty as sevco about who they employ.
But the SMSM reported yesterday (with great enthusiasm) that Rangers winger Cerny had numerous European clubs after him…… Must be one of those contact thingys again where the embryo club receive transfer money for a player who is not owned by them, genius !!!!!!
HH
SMSM are PATHOLOGICAL Liars Dando…
Just sayin like !
They’re DEFINITELY Pathological Liars then for sure – Cos it’s SEVCO winger Cerny as ‘Rangers’ are deed as the dodo !
Embryo or Umbro ?
