The final whistle had barely blown on his side’s Europa League exit but James Tavernier was all-in with the campaign to install Barry Ferguson as permanent manager.

A 2-0 aggregate defeat from Athletic Bilbao killed the season stone dead to ensure that Captain Disappointed goes into his Testimonial season without a trophy in the blue room.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time Ferguson passed a note on to substitute Hamza Igamane that made its way back to the former Wigan ace.

In the 80th minute Tav was posted missing as Nico Williams ran in unmarked at the back post to head past Liam Kelly to book a place in the semi-final.

Across Bilbao, Spain and Europe the celebrations were underway as football prevailed, straight after the final whistle Tav went into job preservation mode as he prepared to start his 11th season at Ibrox.

I’ve been really happy since Barry came in. He’s steadied the ship and puts demands on us.

He knows the DNA of the club, along with the staff he’s got. It’s not my decision but I’d love to have Barry for next season.

Tactically with Neil and Doddsy, they’re a great group who get right behind the boys and push us.

It’s not up to me but it would be good to see them here

The only thing that would top Ferguson getting the job would be a new long term contract for Tavernier after lifting three trophies in a decade of disappointment.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.

    Steadied the ship?
He’s only won about 2 games!

I’m in two minds about this…. Buckfast Barry is clearly a halfwit who is just winging it – repeating Walter’s old half-time speeches, using Clemente’s team and tactics, trying to do the Jock Wallace routine when training them – and while I’m confident the wheels would come off his clown car amusingly quickly if he was installed permanently, I think the only way it will happen is if we lose at iBrox in a fortnight. Would that be a price worth paying for next season? Or are we confident that they will find another Clemente, Caixinha or Beale to appoint anyway?

Losing two in a row to him (and three in a row to Sevco) will be the ultimate embarrassment for Brendan…

Being schooled by one that failed at these global giants of Kelty Hearts and Alloa Athletic is cringeworthy !

Contrary to popular belief, Buckfast Barry was actually successful with Kelty Hearts – after falling on his face at Clyde he won two Lowland League championships with Kelty and after the second one, got them into the league by winning the playoff. He immediately quit, presumably expecting a call from Real Madrid asking him to take over at the Bernabeu but when the call came asking him to take over, it was from the top side in Clackmannanshire rather than Europe’s premier club side. A very average period in charge of Alloa ended with him being ‘mutually consented’ and taking up a “newspaper career” – talking complete shite with the Daily Record.

Lowland Champion And Lowlife Champion as well…

Make his a double then !!!

          • Captain Swing says:

One of the oddest things about Kelty Hearts is that if you go there, most of the kids at the game seem to be wearing Celtic taps. I’m sure wee Barry must’ve loved that!

Apparently Mrs Ferguson’s husband is the finest note writer of tactics ..in all of wee Scotland ? On that basis alone , he’s a shoo in for the permanent job in Ibroxland ! Rumour has it that his note writing skills are exemplary ? Big Inaction at the Record will want to take the credit for that , no doubt !

    Penalty Tav…

Crawler on the field of play these days – And a bloody crawler off it as well it would seem !

  • Valentine's day massacre says:

Ca ‘ Canny Tavpen ! Carlo Ancelotti will be leaving his post as Real Madrid head coach next week ! Bookies will make him favourite for the job as the next theRangers head coach ..no doubt ? A big problem might be that his Italian writing sent onto the field of play in any ‘written notes ‘ like last night , might be difficult to decipher ? Especially for big , bad Souttar . There’s only 1 ‘d’ in fud Mr Baz !
