Since February 19 Ibrox fans have been hanging on to every word from Keith Jackson of the Daily Record.
That publication has a long history of delivering comforting good news to their Army of Readers with their star reporter forever associated with introducing a scruffy wee guy from Lanarkshire who had wealth off the radar.
The Record stuck with that claim for seven months despite overwhelming evidence that Mister Whyte barely owned a pot of his own.
Fourteen years later the Record is back on the campaign trail for another Ibrox takeover, this time around there is even less evidence to back up their excitable claims.
Six weeks have passed without a single concrete development in the takeover, the buyers and sellers haven’t said a word, neither has even been named with no price discussed for a club that lost £17.2m last season with losses for the current season expected to be abover £25m.
The San Francisco 49ers were stamped all over the WORLD EXCLUSIVE, it took until April 1, seriously, to get a comment from their owners on the exciting breakthrough to take charge of what was once claimed to be the World’s Most Successful Team.
Unfortunately for the Record Jed York had nothing to say about the transformational takeover which was at an advanced stage on February 19.
York was offered the takeover excuse for choking spending at the 49ers, he declined it then expanded to explain that any soccer link ups would purely be for marketing and branding- not financials.
Those comments were reported by ESPN on April 1, it took the Record until the following day to pick up on them, apparently York was coy on the subject…
ESPN decided to insert the word yet into York’s comments, at no point did he use that word. Rather than check out the comments from York the Record hung their hats on the fabrication using yet.
2 minutes 30 seconds, the soccer question, asked about ‘Rangers’ York ignored the takeover, finishing up with ‘in terms of financials they don’t overlap at all’.
Ohh dear
The daily ranger looking for excuses why the owner of the 49ers doesn’t know who sevco are
They even put a “yet” in his quote for him ?
The part where they said “this would explain” said like a desperate fan
It’s now changed to them having some involvement ?? pic.twitter.com/HWjxx2FpaV

ESPN started the spin with the addition of the word yet, but not within the quotes from York.
49ers Enterprises already owns the Leeds United soccer team, and it’s been reported that an agreement to buy Rangers FC in Glasgow, Scotland, is also in the offing. That has left some fans wondering whether the Niners are tightening their financial belts with an eye toward preserving funds for that deal. Nothing is done on that front just yet, according to York.
“We haven’t done anything there,” York said. “Leeds is obviously under the umbrella, but those are completely separate from the 49ers. Where we can tie brands together and sort of take our best practices of operating and things like that, [we do,] but in terms of financials, they don’t overlap at all.”
Adding yet was enough for the Daily Record to pretend that their much celebrated takeover was a real thing.
Print circulation of the Daily Record during February was 43,342, it isn’t below 40,000, yet.

As big Donald is always saying,it’s FAKE NEWS.
Schoolkids will be taught about this historic moment.
Teachers will follow the great gold rush of 1849 in class, with the great FOOLS gold rush of 2025.
The 49’rs and the 25’rs…..or is that the 20 fivers?
I have several relatives & work friends who are diehard hun, and this just doesn’t surprise me at all.
There is just no talking to them about anything, there is no doubt in them when these stories break, they believe everything and anything they hear & are told.
Its both funny & scary at the same time.
Just how can an entire support be completely hoodwinked time after time and still blindly accept whatever is thrown at them?
It truly boggles the mind.
Tariffs … 10% tariffs on any purchase of shares between theRangers and anyone from the US will be a helluva kick in the stones ! Who knows the UK government may even introduce a 20 % tariff on the US …badoinkkk !
