Celtic fans have long chanted that Glasgow’s Green and White, a chant with a couple of meaning depending on your use of the apostrophe.
The very visible increase in the number of Irish pubs in the city centre is an economic demonstration of that claim but it that message has yet to reach the power-brokers and decision makers inside Glasgow City Council.
Over the last week social media has highlighted the Council’s approval for Orange Order hate marches while at the same time the city leaders have refused to make the most basic provisions for Celtic fans to celebrate a fourth title win in and around the pubs in the Trongate and Merchant City.
Yesterday the Council took their opposition even further with a statement that claimed
These events and others like them have consistently led to disorder – causing significant disruption for the local community and businesses.
Damage to buildings and infrastructure robs the public purse of hundreds of thousands of pounds that would otherwise be spent on the essential services we all rely on.
That sort of language suggests that the City Council has been recruiting from the Daily Record for their Communications Department.
Of course nothing is ever revealed about the costs of policing the hate marches which the Council facilitates every a Saturday from April through until September.
It’s funny how the Orange Order-appeasing Cooncil have no problem facilitating hate marches or a riot in front of their HQ in George Square but won’t even put a few extra bins out for the Champions celebrating in the sun . . . https://t.co/tzzHg9wmSm pic.twitter.com/m0RbjajiEv

After three consecutive years the Trongate celebrations were showing signs of waning, the novelty has worn off, points have been made with the Lockdown riots of 2021 when the authorities and legacy media outlets looked the other way.
The attitude of the Council this week has acted as a rallying cry to Celtic fans, with the brilliant weather continuing more fans that ever before are expected to celebrate the 55ers after the match against St Mirren and trophy presentation.
Susan Aitken of the SNP is the leader of Glasgow City Council, robbing the public purse of £66,085.12 during the year to 30 March 2024.
Susan Aitken has responded to fan Celtic celebration yesterday – and she is not happy.

The council have been neglecting Glasgow for years. They’ve downgraded services across the city. The area’s around the train stations is a disgrace to anyone visiting the city. It does not leave a good first impression.

‘Nuff said.
I’ve already emailed my MSP and called out GCC and the hypocrisy with their statement. I also informed him that if anything goes wrong on the day I will be holding the GCC accountable for this and the wider Celtic fans will certainly hold GCC accountable too.
Has anyone asked the pubs?
This is not a failure of the council it’s simply a set up !!
NOTHING ELSE
Exactly what I was going to post. If there’s a meeting of Filth march vs celebrating Tims and it all kicks off that will be used as an excuse by SNP MSPs to bring in all kinds of draconian bollocks that punish the football fans they obviously hate so very, very much. Especially after the eventual humiliating crushing of their previous shitey anti-fitba bill.
Even Stevie Wonder can see what they’re up to FFS, the utter scumbags.
Perhaps the public purse would be a tad healthier if it hadn’t been for £100m plus in EBTs, the tens of millions paid out to Duff and Phelps, Charles Greene et al in damages and massive legal costs for the manner in which they were dealt with according to the court rulings.
The amount of stories we hear nowadays of politicians with dodgy expenses claims and other ways of slurping from the trough or abusing power in some ways. What a cheek for football fans behaviour to be accused like this.
There was an unlawful take over of George Sq where the impact may have been much more deadly to our Service Workers’ lives, with the real threat that covid levels could be significantly increased due to an irresponsible gathering.
Double standards methinks.
Gcc what trouble to happen so they can blame celtic and the fans to make sure there is no more parties in town and the oo are happen to go along with the plan
60k to clean up?? How much does it cost for shutting down roads and hiring extra plod for the marchers. Plus we’ll only be in trongate for one day. How many marches are happening?? Over the next few months??scotland open to all as long as you’re not kaffliks… lurkers remember, your kids will be Celtic fans

Hail Hail.
Susan Aitken? Just another freeloading hypocrite, never happier than when she’s fleecing the public for every penny. Peter Lawwell, allegedly, taught her all he knows on that subject.
Hail Hail.
Just make it George square then.
The council are akin to SFA full the funny handshake brigade always has been always will but it won’t stop them that deserve the right to celebrate from doing so orange order should be restricted to one parade on the 12th of July to acclaim the right to celebrate a war from 335 YEARS ago . everything is geared towards the masonic lodge getting whatever they want
