Having repeatedly pushed back the timeline on the takeover at Ibrox bankrolled by the San Francisco 49GERS, Keith Jackson has finally admitted that all isn’t well with the transformational deal.
When he introduced the WORLD EXCLUSIVE on February 19 all seemed done and dusted, multi-million pound investment was on the way leading to a summer spending splurge.
Eleven weeks later the takeover timeline has been pushed back to mid June by Dave King, the Record is starting to manage expectations with Douglas Park finally getting a mention.
Putting it bluntly King and Park have a very long running sore, when the South African based businessman quit as Chairman in March 2020 Park was thrown into the spotlight.
As well as taking over as Chairman the Lanarkshire based businessman had to repay a loan with interest, King wasn’t prepared to accept additional worthless shares, he wanted cash just as the world economy went into lockdown.
Park has sat in the background while King tells his media messengers exactly what Ibrox fans want to hear, the takeover is clearly being driven from South Africa as King looks to get something back on his worthless shares which have been diluted down from 19% to 12.96%.
Following King’s interview on TalkSPORT fresh light has been shed on the slow moving takeover which has provided Ibrox fans with hope through a run of seven home matches without a win.
After firstly crediting Paul Murray, the Borders Banker that has spent most of his adult life blazer chasing for a gig at Ibrox, Jackson turned to the reasons why the takeover has stalled despite revealing on February 19 that the talks were at an advanced stage:
But there was something else that King confessed during his 12-and-a-half minutes on the airwaves, which strikes at the heart of where Rangers have got it so badly wrong, during his own time at the helm and in the subsequent years of steady failure thereafter.
“Having been around the club for 20 years, there is a big disadvantage in clubs like Rangers where the board and decision-making is dominated by supporters,” King said without a hint of irony.
This was a blast aimed from his Johannesburg bunker straight across the bows of his successors – and of former chairman Douglas Park in particular.
The pair of them have been fighting like rats in a sack ever since Park overthrew King at the head of the boardroom and the relationship between them remains nuclear.
This clash of personalities has been one of the reasons that the negotiations to buy a controlling stake in the club have been so complex and drawn out.
There are difficulties and conflicts of interest strewn across the boardroom carpet like land mines. And Cavenagh and his colleagues have had to tip toe through them all without blowing the deal up in the process.
Having finally mentioned Park perhaps someone at the Record can get his thoughts on the Revolution heading towards Ibrox engineered from South Africa.
Meanwhile Paddy Stewart is set to step up his austerity plan with a spending freeze imposed for summer transfer activity.
Genuine question Editor…Is it still a fakeover …or will there be a takeover …in your opinion ?
Editor: Take your pick but next season will look much like this one. Deal will likely fall apart or minor changes as King finally gets rid of his worthless shares.
I still don’t get why they’re here and walking around the place…Weird indeed.
Apt that you use the word weird Terence as they truly have been weird for the 12 years and 283 days old (as of today) football club !
They’ve been weird since 1690 Clach….but I was referring to the Yanks…Hail hail.
Question for the editor.
You have stated a thousand times that there is no deal. You have described it as a Fakeover for many weeks now.
Then you state above the deal will likely fall through. What deal. Is this a major shift in your thinking.
The PANIC button has now been pressed,a special guest star appearance from KING of the CHISLERS himself should now be setting alarm bells off.
Something has now gone wrong in the deal if the CONMAN is having to front an interview to try and calm the nerves.
The thing is who is going to take the crap thrown at the klub from the klan fan base when the Yanks call it a day and walk away, not that they had ever been there in the first place, probably showed up last week as a favour to Stsr Trek to get the final push of season books over the line.
Why would a multi-billion pound company/enterprise sit back from last October watching a klub run itself into ground borrowing £5-6 million a month to get by,for that sane enterprise to then go a spend up £300 million quid to make that klub stable.
Is this the GASL turning the heat on Park .
He’s out yesterday telling the gullibillies how he demanded proof of the buyers commitment to bank roll the club before he parts with his shares .
Now his pet poodle is out portraying Park as the spanner in the works that’s holding the deal up.
IMO , looks like a call to arms to the hordes in an effort to make Parks life a bit unpleasant
Boycott of forecourts anyone
As I keep reminding people…OTHER car dealerships are available for a change of car or a Service or an MOT…Just sayin’.

Jimmy, all the lads in the fan media are describing it as a “Fakeover” due to the fact it will NEVER materialize in the way the SMSM are portraying it will, hence the term “Fakeover” they’re not saying that something isn’t in the works.
Also, If you think that the 49ers are going to come in and pay £100m for a club that hasn’t made an annual profit since it’s inception and invest another £50m in transfer fee’s then I suggest you start calling it a “Fakeover” as well.
