Stephen Welsh made a scoring farewell to Mechelen with a header in the 2-2 draw away to Dender.
After his new club had an up and down time following his January loan move the 25-year-old has become a regular in defence, starting 15 matches and making two substitute appearances after turning out in two Celtic matches before the switch.
Where he stands in the pecking order at Celtic is difficult to work out but a permanent move, probably to a club on the continent is probably the best option for all parties.
According to Soccerway Welsh played 1304 minutes for Mechelen who finished third in the bottom half of the Belgian League following the split.

Welsh made his Celtic debut under Neil Lennon in 2020, during the second half of the 20/21 season he became a regular ahead of Shane Duffy with Chris Jullien out with a long term injury.
The following seasons have been hit or miss with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Liam Scales ahead of the Academy graduate.
With Auston Trusty, Maik Nawrocki and Dane Murray around Brendan Rodgers isn’t short of options for the task of partnering Carter-Vickers in central defence.
