At the age of 30 Hearts have decided not to offer Barrie McKay a new contract.

The winger moved to Tynecastle in September 2021 and has started 65 SPFL matches over his four seasons with the club.

Whatever has followed on in his career McKay has the distinction of scoring the first ever goal for the Ibrox Tribute Act, Charles Green looked on with pride as the young winger found the net away to Brechin City in the SFL Challenge Cup.

Under the management of Ally McCoist the career of the young winger looked to be dead and buried but a flurry of dribbles under Mark Warburton was met with the expected media excitement.

In January 2017 Keith Jackson revealed details of RB Leipzig preparing to scoop and swoop with a £6m bid following a friendly between the two clubs.

Six months later Warbo paid out £500,000 to take McKay to Nottingham Forrest but neither lasted very long, the former City Trader was sacked in December with McKay joining Swansea after 26 appearances for Forest.

Possibly the highlight of McKay’s career was when Jonny McFarlane explained to Daily Record readers that the Ibrox starlet was actually more gifted than Kieran Tierney.

While McFarlane’s career has soared from being the Daily Record tea-boy to Head of Digital Sport for Newsquest which includes titles such as The Herald, Ranger Review, Glasgow Times and The Celtic Way, the same can’t be said for McKay.

With his lack of appearances there is unlikely to be a rush of clubs putting in offers for the 30-year-old who might have to fall back into his second career as a hairdresser.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

Whenever I watched him play…I wondered why I hung up my boots…Overated and overpaid.

Somebody show him the way to the M77 Kilmarnock will sign him, especially if Naismith is getting that gig,the auld pals act, looking after each other.

As for the outburst from Ferguson yesterday when he had thrown all of his toys out the pram as he knows he ain’t getting that gig,a think he may have shot himself in the foot, I can see them withdrawing his Ambassador role he had previously with the klub that he thought he was walking back into when the season finishes.
The wee dig he had at the board I don’t think they will take very kindly to that,Go Radio, daily sevco and probably a wee extra gig at the BBC to compensate the wage he will lose regard losing the Ambassador role.

I reckon you’re right, Joker. I don’t think that undignified rant will have gone down well at Dignity FC, as it could jeopardise all those years of unsurpassed dignity. Not very staunch or loyal either.

I guess that’s the risk you take though, when you employ the wee ned from your local pub – you know, they weasely wee guy that looks like he lives off Pot Noodle and hangs round by the fruit machine in his Burberry baseball cap and big gold chain, selling weed and hooky gear – take him out of his shellsuit and put him in the sacred blazer and brogues (with optional Walter Waistcoat).

  • Captain Swing says:

Coming soon – to a Lowland League or Junior side near you! Hahahaha! Even by the standard of the many, many Great White Hopes at iBrox over the years, this boy is the most overrated I’ve seen. Incapable of trapping the proverbial bag of cement, he’s lucky to have masqueraded as a professional footballer this long.
