The process of dampening down expectations that Davide Ancelotti is Ibrox bound is under way.
On Monday Spanish and Italian sources went strongly with claims of a three year contract starting in mid-June.
While there were outbreaks of hysteria among the minnions in the Scottish media it was noticeable that none of the big hitters were putting their names on the story.
Every possible angle was dredged up with gloss applied from Jude Bellingham and Luca Modric drooling over the brilliance of Carlo’s laddie.
It seems that Davide has had a Micky Beale type role of behind the scenes brilliance while his blundering Dad basked in the glory of multiple Champions League successes earning him jobs with the biggest clubs in the business.
The reality is that Ancelotti’s agents will have made contact with whoever is in charge at Ibrox, leaking the story out to obliging media sources serves a purpose for both parties.
Chris Jack and the Rangers Review are effectively an extension of the Ibrox PR operation, tonight he attempted to downplay expectations that Davide will be inheriting Barry Ferguson’s brogues and blazer.
The Rangers Review understands Ancelotti has held positive discussions over a potential move to Glasgow as he gets set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the campaign. And that could result in the 35-year-old becoming the next man tasked with bringing the Premiership title back to Ibrox.
Ancelotti – the son of legendary Italian boss Carlo – has emerged as a key target for the incoming regime as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises prepare to clinch a multi-million pound takeover deal in the coming weeks. It is believed that Ancelotti has other opportunities in several leagues ahead of the new campaign, but is attracted to the idea of succeeding interim manager Barry Ferguson this summer.
Two more weeks takes us into June, the draw for the Champions League Second Round takes place on June 18 with the matches being played on July 22/23 and 29/30.
On Tuesday Barry Ferguson was far from happy when he was asked about the Ancelotti speculation.
It seems that the former Daily Record columnist had read too much into the latest hype, with Derek McInnes on his way to Hearts David Martindale now poses the biggest threat to Ferguson’s hopes of being made manager on a permanent basis.
The wee drug dealing ex con ned would be a good fit for the huns, embodying their key values as he does.
Kwality maaan. haw! haw! haw!

An cella lotti – LIES – The mantra of The Scummy’s !
Duncan Ferguson?
Not out of the question but given his – ahem – ‘suspect temperament’, is putting someone with a long track record for resorting to violence in a highly-pressured job a good idea? He’d be like Buckfast Barry’s bigger and much harder cousin. You can easily imagine him effing and blinding at them on the training ground, in the dugout, at the referees and growling at the hacks after any poor result. Wouldn’t take a lot to send him over the edge!
