A shadow Celtic side delivered an emphatic message to Aberdeen just 10 days before the Scottish Cup Final.
A 5-1 defeat is worrying at any time but when Callum McGregor was the only certain Hampden starter on last night’s team sheet the problems pile up on Jimmy Thelin.
Other than a brief spell around Kevin Nesbit’s 42nd minute equaliser Aberdeen barely competed with Yang Hyun-jun finding time to put Celtic in front before the half time break.
In the second half Celtic powered away from their hosts with James Forrest and Luke McCowan heavily involved.
Forrest was unplayable with Graeme Shinnie substituted in the 58th minute after being turned inside out once too many times.
There was one serious downside for Celtic with Reo Hatate forced off in the 84th minute following a brutal challenge from Pape Gueye.
Brendan Rodgers had a close up view of the attack which resulted in only a yellow card from Steven McLean with John Beaton on VAR duty agreeing with that assessment.
Celtic fans will now wait for word on the extent of the injury but it looks like the Japanese midfielder will be watching the action at Hampden alongside Jota who is expected to be out of action until November at the earliest.
Good result – Need to watch no St.Mirren Sevco sympathiser crocks Daizen on Saturday !
