Signed to an internal fanfare, the seven signings of Mark Lawwell in the summer of 2023 started just 13 SPFL Premiership matches during the 24/25 season.
It is an incredible statistic, one that has seriously weakened the Celtic squad as was cruelly demonstrated with the substitutions in the Scottish Cup Final.
‘Leading’ the way is Yang Hyun-jun who started nine SPFL matches backed up by 14 appearances off the bench. His appearance at Hampden against Aberdeen was the stuff of nightmares, one that will be hard to shake off.
Yang made more first team appearances than the other six in the SPFL Premiership. Luis Palma started one match before moving on loan to Olympiakos, Maik Nawrocki started three games with Odin Thiago Holm making three brief appearances off the bench before the arrival of Arne Engels and Luke McCowan.
Kwon Hyeok-kyu is still waiting to play a minute of first team football for Celtic, he started 12 SPFL Premiership matches but never got a minute of activity after February 16.
Marco Tilio spent the entire season on loan at Melbourne City with Gus Lagerbielke on loan at Twente.
That horrendous transfer window followed on from two others masterminded by Lawwell, in total 14 players were signed on a permanent basis with Alistair Johnston the only success.
Mark stepped down in March 2024, Michael Nicholson denied that he had been sacked, so far he has yet to surface in a new job in football.
While those seven signings linger around the squad and the manager will remain handicapped, so far no club has put in an offer to buy that matches the overblown wages that they are on.
Incredibly the seven signings made in the summer of 2023 are all sitting on five year contracts, unless drastic action is taken they will continue to be a drain on resources while Mark Lawwell seeks the next exciting challenge in his scouting journey.
Big Nepo Daddy Lawwell put him there – his family and himself always coming before Celtic- and it has cost us plenty, despite what the board shills on CQN say.
No Lawwell should ever be near Celtic again, and that also goes for his place man puppet Nicholson.

Most of these are good players who just didn’t get a run in the first team due to the pecking order, Brendan Rodgers preferences and the pressure to win at all costs. Nawrocki ,Holm and Lagerbielke are good players who will do a job for other teams if not at Celtic. yang blows hot and cold but on his game again will be an asset to another team.
