Celtic will play Ajax on July 24 as part of the Como Cup, a four team tournament being branded as Football on the Lake.
The famous northern Italian resort now has a club that is a regular in Serie A with little trouble in attracting players such as Alex Valle.
In theory that match followed by a game against Como or Al Ahly seems like ideal preparations but it is only fair to point out that putting Celtic and Ajax together isn’t a very sensible plan.
There has been several violent clashes in Glasgow and Amsterdam over the last 12 years when the clubs met in the Champions League and Europa League.
Both clubs have groups of supporters heavily involved in the events in Gaza, putting them in the same town for five days suggests that someone hasn’t done their homework.
With an Egyptian side also involved there is the making for a perfect storm, in 2022 Celtic’s plan to take part in the Sydney Super Cup led to one club pulling out of that four team competition.

Celtic announced today that they will play Queens Park in a friendly on July 4, as they did last season.
Following that match they play Cork City on July 8, while training in the Algarve there will be a friendly against Sporting Lisbon on July 16 before a home match against Newcastle United three days later.
Thank you @Como_1907 for the kind invitation and the warm spirit of this tournament ?
We, Al Ahli fans, carry a deep passion for football and can’t wait to share unforgettable moments on the shores of Lake Como ???
Let’s make it a week to remember — see you soon!#ComoCup…— Al-Ahli Saudi | Leaks (@AhliLeaksFC) June 10, 2025
I think you’re being overly pessimistic about this, there’s no reason to spoil what sounds like a cracking tournament. I don’t think there’ll be any problems. I really hope not anyway
