To outsiders it was one of the most ridiculous WORLD EXCLUSIVEs ever written, in November 2010 Keith Jackson introduced a billionaire from Motherwell to the Daily Record’s army of readers.
Virtually no-one knew of the odd looking character, how he had aquired billionaire status was impossible to uncover unlike genuine billionaires like Tom Farmer, Tom Hunter, Brian Souter and Ann Gloag.
The made their fortunes through Sports Division, Kwik-Fit and Stagecoach but almost nothing was known about Whyte other than he owned (a mortage) on a Highland castle.
After their WORLD EXCLUSIVE the Record doubled down, they were all-in for their new master, forecasting a new generation of domination under Murray’s specially selected successor.

I was lucky enough to be working at the Daily Record at that time wae Jacko and others.
It was a fascinating, fascinating time for me, a big learning curve, being a lot younger.
It is a shame because obviously Keith did have a good relationship with Murray and I know that during that time and I don’t mind saying this but I don’t think that any other journalist in the Scottish media did more to try and expose Craig Whyte and what was happening at Rangers.
WOW! If only just one of those efforts had reached the pages of the Record the Rangers support could have been spared administration, liquidation and more than a decade of misery.
From the launching of a billionaire with off the radar wealth through to the day that Sir Duped grasped a pound coin there wasn’t a single critical comment from any Daily Record employee published. Zilch.
It was war-chests and expanded stadiums all the way, a new generation of dominance bankrolled by a guy barely known inside Motherwell.
In June 2012 Jackson did publish details of the Ticketus deal which had been discussed for a fortnight on Kerrydale Street.
While that story did appear in print the online version was quickly deleted with an apology sent to Mister Whyte.
Soon the Record was breaking the exclusive news about signing Matt McKay, Juan Ortiz and Lee Wallace.
Murray could have rolled the pound back to Whyte and ditched the deal, Jackson could have published his fears and concerns over the man he described as having off the radar wealth.
Those things never happened with liquidation following on four months from administration, confirming the death of Rangers.

You couldn’t mark their necks with a blow tourch. From a single hun, to the Scottish press, through to Murray, all history revisionist. Do they forget we lived through the jelly and ice cream! “Your team is deid mate”.
Sir Duped of Liebrox is now vying with Dave King, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump, to see who wins the title of World’s Biggest Liar.
Porkie pies at the ready everyone!
They could win the tour de France in reverse with all their back peddling, fkn ridiculous their still in a job , no wonder that rag is circling the sewer.
You would definitely think that having made an absolute cunt of himself, our man would just let it lie.
But no, once the biggest cheat in UK sporting history puts out his revisionist autobiography, our man sees this as the opportunity to do a bit of revision himself.
If Sir Davy has the neck, why shouldn’t I?
I haven’t bought or read a newspaper for 20 years or more, whilst I’m not stupid enough to think all the news in them is 100% accurate, one thing I am sure of is the sports media in Scotland is utterly bereft of any moral compass when it comes to football in particular.
They are almost all Sevco sympathisers which skews everything they write or say, those who aren’t are forced to sell out to continue to earn a crust, tow the line or your off the rota pal.
It’s hard to name anyone in the field who says it as it is, even the odd rebel like Spiers carefully words any negative take on Sevco fearing the blowback.
The sooner rags like the DR are gone the better, the Keef’s of this world don’t have the journalistic talent to stay relevant against the online bloggers and would quickly disappear “ off the radar”.
