Celtic are apparently bracing themselves for a transfer blow over the Matt O’Riley windfall.

That is the midfielder that Celtic sold last August for £28m after paying £1.5m to MK Dons in January 2022.

Incredibly the Daily Record has acquired the low down on the deal as well as the nitty gritty on Roma and Napoli’s transfer plans including reference to Financial Fair Play.

An issue that the Glasgow based publisher won’t go near in Scottish football.

Should Andrew Cavenagh and Russell Martin ever turn around a £26m profit on any player the Record will produce a special edition with ice cream and jelly for each of their remaining readers.

Nothing at Celtic this summer is hinged on a sell on boost from O’Riley, the club currently has a bank balance in the region of £100m, partly boosted by the Brighton fee for the Danish midfielder.

A 10% sell-on seems standard in every transfer contract, it would take a £40m fee for O’Riley to send £1m into Celtic’s transfer kitty.

In-demand Matt O’Riley has reportedly told Brighton he would prefer to join Roma this summer if he leaves the club.

But that could leave Celtic’s sell-on windfall at risk with the Serie A?giants looking to avoid a major Financial Fair Play pitfall.

The Hoops have already seen the Parkhead coffers boosted this summer by a sell-on windfall after Jeremie Frimpong’s move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen.

And the Scottish champions powerbrokers are on alert again amid reports that Napoli made a £25.6million (€30million) offer for the Danish international just 12 months on from his £25million Parkhead exit.

Celtic hold a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that took the 24-year-old to the AMEX Stadium last season – but the Seagulls are said to be in no rush to sell with talks “ongoing” over a deal.

The Daily Record doesn’t have a clue about the details of the deal between Celtic and Brighton over O’Riley.

None of Celtic’s summer transfer business is dependent on sell on clauses for any player, in other news Lyall Cameron has a sore leg and will miss the start of pre-season training tomorrow at Murray Park.

Why would it be a distressful situation, Celtic made a lot of profit from Matt, O , so we won’t get a wee bit more like we,re desperate for an xtra million , what a load of balloney ,no one will be the slightest bothered about not getting additional payment from sell-on

His every waking moment is focused on the green folding stuff.
      A totally loathsome individual.
I suppose we can all be grateful he wasn’t born with an identical male twin.
