George Tsakiris has called out the Daily Record, accusing them of not reflecting reality. Welcome to 2025 George.

The Glasgow based publisher has gone to incredible lengths to provide feel good news for their Army of Readers as they come to terms with Celtic being Scotland’s most successful team.

While Celtic pile up real trophies all that the bears have had to celebrate is the Close Season Cup, won for eight successive seasons alongside a couple of International Break Trophy wins and the UEFA Co-efficient Shield.

Over the last month Jamie Vardy, Luka Modric and Jordan Henderson have all been Ibrox bound alongside the most promising prospects in the Real Madrid Academy.

Alongside that clubs are queing up to throw money into Russell Martin’s Transfer war-chest with Nicky Raskin, Hamza Igamane and Mohamed Diomande expected to raise at least £50m following outstanding seasons at the SPFL runners up.

It does seem that the Record took things too far with reports of AEK Athens putting in a £5m for Cyriel Dessers, getting offered half that amount would be a result to get the Nigerian striker off the wage bill.

The moonbeams of the Record quickly reached Athens with Greek website Sport FM quick to set things right for their readers and listeners:

The Daily Record has sparked a firestorm , reporting that AEK and Rangers are very close to an agreement for the sale of Cyril Deschers for 4.7 million euros.

However, George Tsakiris spoke to bwinSport FM 94.6 and stated that the case is not as advanced as it is being presented.

For starters, the reporter for the “yellow and black” team said that the Daily Record report does not reflect reality. He is and remains AEK ‘s main target for the attack, but the two sides are not yet that close to an agreement.

While he then emphasized that substantial transfer moves are expected to be made during the week, with the aim of having two or three more transfers completed when AEK leaves for its preparation . It is very important to have a left back in preparation.

It seems that Dessers’ agent has agreed wages with AEK, now they just have to sit back and watch the asking price fall.

So far none of last season’s serial losers have been sold meaning that James Tavernier, Jack Butland, Ridvan Yilmaz and the usual suspects will be reporting back for pre-season training next Monday.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

    It’s not rocket science.

Martin has to deliver – whilst retaining the bulk of Clement’s failed squad.

In normal circumstances, the incoming manager would gut the squad and bring in his own picks.

But, sevco has no cash, and it would seem (?) that the new ‘Head Coach’ has agreed to using the players he has,

    or is given.

That might work if Martin has them playing winning football,

but if/when the results are poor, the divisions/frustrations/lack of fight within the squad will come to the fore.

Regardless, Martin has a tough job ahead of him – and these early CL qualifiers could set the tone for the season…?
