Jonny McFarlane wants Chris Sutton charged by the SFA after his favourite club were fined £3,000 for the comments of John Brown on ‘Rangers TV’.
The Head of Digital Sport at Newsquest, covering The Herald, The National, Glasgow Times and the Celtic Way was speaking this morning on the Rangers Review.
Brown claimed that it was corruption that denied his club a goal in the dead rubber against Hibs at the end of last season.
McFarlane thinks that Brown was wrong with his comments, which breaks SFA rules but as usual with all things Ibrox it is all about whataboutery.
Tom Boyd’s comments about John Beaton going to the pub is apparently comparable- it is in the eyes of the Gullible & Deluded when they are going overboard on their paranoia.
After covering the prospect of all SPFL clubs having their in-house content monitored big Jonny really got into his stride.

Listen, you could extent that out, like, even like Sky’s coverage that is authorised by the SPFL, they are there by a deal agreed by Neil Doncaster.
Chris Sutton has not exactly been slow in the past to suggest that there has been a bias against his team, again, I think it is preposterous but then are you in a situation where the SPFL are going to be getting looked at by the SFA over comments that are being made by them.
It, it, it is very very messy and unnecessary, I think, one of my pals always says, regarding columnists and opinionists (what sort of word is that?), in the sorts media game that we are in, he always says, ‘you don’t have to take a swing at every pitch’.

For me, the SFA, on this one, I just think that it is an unnecessary situation that they’ve got themselves into where, by now, every time there is a club media comment that is slightly dubious or slightly controversial they are going to be bogged down in a storm.
Yes, a storm created by folk like McFarlane who won’t recognise the line crossed by Brown.
If Sutton repeated Brown’s comments on Sky Sports or BBC Five Live it would be the end of his broadcasting career, he wouldn’t be touched by any partner broadcaster.
Brown’s comments are aimed at the paranoid and unhinged inside Ibrox, backed up by McFarlane and other loyal cheerleaders.
If he can dig up equivalent comments from Chris Sutton he has a blockbuster story for the Herald/Rangers Review.
Or perhaps he can highlight the SFA rule that covers pundits.
Sutton could get his lawyer to drop a letter to the Head of Digital Sport at Newsquest but the former Celtic striker has no inclination to give a Z list pundit/celebrity any attention or notoriety.

Is this the same Sutton who was effectively restricted from doing his – Sky – job at ibrox a while ago,
because his safety couldn’t be guaranteed (if I remember correctly).
How much was ibrox fined for that intimidation / restriction of Sky access, etc?

That is the level of illiteracy that one is up against when it comes to anti catholic racism in not so Bonnie Scotland !!!
You should have asked him for his views on the theological issue of transubstantiation, Clach. Or just asked him to spell it. Or maybe something easier like his name.
Brown was warned by his co-host as he spoke that he couldn’t say that, when he had his little outburst. Instead of behaving like the level headed professional a pundit/commentator is supposed to be and retracting what he said – or just shutting up and moving on – he behaved like the moronic thug fan boy that he is and doubled down on it and repeated it. So if their in-house TV match host knows that Brown would land in hot water for what he said (and for refusing to apologise and then doubling down, instead of backing down), why are their board, media, PR and legal people seemingly so surprised by the fact that they’ve been hit with actual consequences for once?
As for that halfwit McFarlane’s whataboutery, you can suggest individual bias if there is evidence to back that up, which Boyd and Sutton point to. Same with incompetence, if you can show that a key decision was wrong (especially an obvious one like Maeda’s disallowed goal at Easter Road).
What Brown publicly, openly and firmly accused the ref, VAR officials and basically the football authorities as a whole of, was wholesale corruption. That is a whole other level of allegation and, if baseless (which it is in this case), exposes him to legal action for slander and defamation of character.
So Sevco, my advice to you is maybe just accept that he was clearly in the wrong, bin him off your pundit roster (he is just a washed up hammer thrower who has nothing of value to say on the actual football anyway), pay the small fine and be grateful you’ve got away with one, if it means no legal action. Instead of sending out yet another whining, thinly disguised bullying, victim o’clock statement, like you do every time the slightest thing goes against you – even when it’s clearly the result of your own wrong-doing and/or stupidity! Oh and one more thing – “where’s ’ra deeds??!”
