Kieran Tierney will miss Scotland’s pointless friendly away to Liechtenstein today.
Even by international standards two friendlies in June have to be among the most pointless exercises ever carried out by the SFA.
Players on a high from the end of their club season have been dragged along for training sessions with Steve Clarke with Scotland’s six match World Cup qualifying campaign starting away to Denmark on September 5.
By that time Tierney will be a Celtic player and hopefully played in two Champions League qualifiers that will go a long way to shaping his season at club level.
Clarke has had a spate of call-offs from goalkeepers, following Friday’s home defeat from Iceland it seems that two of his most experienced players have opted to call a halt on the 24/25 season.
The Sun reported:
Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney and Napoli hero Scott McTominay both haven’t travelled to Vaduz for the second friendly of this international break.
Both were subbed off during Friday’s disappointing defeat against Iceland and have been confirmed to have withdrawn through injury.
McTominay looked worse for wear as he limped off, but Tierney was present at training earlier today.
But it was announced that both men are out of the trip and that neither will be replaced in the squad.
Tony Ralston is the only Celtic player in the Scotland squad although Ross Doohan is likely to rejoin the hoops when pre-season training gets underway at Lennoxtown.
Squad update.

Is Kieran with Lawrence Shankland in the big photo. Anyway, it reminded me that Lawrence is out of contract.
I read that his contract terminated 31 May 2025?
He needs to sign again with Heart of Midlothian immediately, or very soon. He deserves a lot more pay than Hearts are giving him. His last three seasons with Hearts yielded 56 League goals from 106 games.
Lawrence instinctively moves into striking spaces when opposition teams “park the bus” or defends a bigger area around the goal. With Celtic’s domination of possession, I believe Lawrence could do what Kyogo did when at Celtic. Forget that he was a Gers fan when a youth. He has the right character and temperament to settle into the best team in Scotland.

If KT had any sense he would call time on his international career to help extend & protect his club playing career.
In his fragile state, its something he shuda done seasons ago.
