Celtic have been given permission to discuss a transfer with Swedish midfielder Benjamin Nygren.

On Wednesday night David Friel of The Sun broke the news of Celtic’s interest in the Nordsjaelland midfielder who has broken into the Swedish international side.

Now the same source has revealed that talks can be held with the player- which would suggest that terms have been agreed between the two clubs.

Late on Thursday The Sun revealed:

CELTIC have been granted permission to hold talks with hitman Benjamin Nygren.

SunSport revealed earlier this week that the £2million Nordsjaelland attacker was on Brendan Rodgers’ wishlist.

The Hoops have now made a move — but face some stiff competition in the race for the 23-year-old’s signature.

As a creative/attacking midfielder Nygen seems to fit the bill of someone that can add to the Celtic squad with the real prospect of instantly going into the first team.

Last summer Arne Engels and Luke McCowan were signed just before the transfer window closed but Celtic completed the season effectively using five midfielders.

Callum McGregor (34 SPFL starts and 1 sub appearance), Reo Hatate (27 starts, 10 as sub) and Arne Engels (25 and 9) were the preferred trio with McCowan coming off the bench 20 times  with Paulo Bernardo called on 15 times as a substitute.

Adding one more midfielder provides Brendan Rodgers with greater depth and options, with Hatate injured Celtic finished the Scottish Cup Final with a midfield of Greg Taylor, McGregor and McCowan.

It does appear that Celtic are starting early with their transfer activities, pre-season training starts on July 1 with the first friendly being away to Queens Park on July 4.
