Chris Sutton is sceptical on two fronts over Nicolas Kuhn’s rumoured summer move to RB Leipzig.
The possibility was first suggested back in November following a memorable Champions League with the winger scoring twice for Celtic against his former club.
Kuhn was literally unplayable that night in what was probably Celtic’s best performance of the season.
That performance would have reminded every serious club about the ability of the former German youth internationalist who had been playing for Rapid Vienna less than a year earlier.
In common with almost all of his team-mates Kuhn’s form fell away badly in the last third of the season, the edge seemed missing with highlights sporadic.
Last week the Leipzig rumour resurfaced, watching his old club closely throughout the campaign Sutton told Daily Record readers why he doesn’t think that the deal will go through:
Chat about a potential £15m bid for the winger has led to some fans suggesting the club should cash in. There will be a time to sell Kuhn. But now is not the time.
I have my doubts Celtic would get £15m for the German this summer, for a start. He struggled at first in Scotland as he struggled having lost weight with those dental problems.
He was sensational in the first half of the season and looked a certainty to clean up the player of the year awards.
Yet he did go off the boil a bit following the Bayern Munich game and it does pose questions about his consistency.
Are teams going to cough up big money on the back of a spectacular six months? They might do, but I’m not so sure. Newcastle United were credited with interest back in January but I can’t see him shifting the likes of Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon.
RB Leipzig are the ones mentioned now – and perhaps that’s understandable given he took his old club apart in the Champions League.
It just seems like the wrong time to be even considering selling though. I think Celtic will struggle to get top dollar and yet I believe he will be worth more down the line.
Kuhn isn’t ready for me. Sometimes you get the feeling a player has reached the natural stage where the next step is inevitable.
Kuhn is under contract with Celtic until June 2029.

If he doesn’t wanna stay Chris then why would you keep him against his will…
Difficult situation for the club – If there’s any truth in any or the ‘rumours’ that is !!!
Happens all the time in Engerlund.
Grealish got an 80m move on the back of basically one good season and he’s proved to be a flop for that kinda money.
We’d probably have someone throwing 30m+ at us for Kuhn if we played down there, even on half a season, such is the cash surplus in the EPL.
Kuhn strikes me as the type if there is a big money move, he’s gonna want it, so best to move him on, we’ve seen players before not lift a leg once the cash is sniffed, Eduard being one that springs to mind, and Ntcham another, disinterested players are destructive to squad dynamics..they wanna go….let them.
