Greg Taylor is reported to have the offer of a two year contract to join Greek side PAOK.
The defender is now out of contract after a season of speculation over his future with both Alex Valle and Arnold Schluup challenging for his place at left-back.
Taylor finished the season as Celtic’s forst choice left-back with this season’s title win his fifth SPFL Premiership success since being signed from Kilmarnock in August 2019.
Greek website PAOK Today reports:
According to reports, the Scottish defender has reached a full agreement with PAOK on both the financial aspects and the duration of his contract, which is the first major step towards completing the transfer.
However, although there is a positive climate and an agreement in principle between the two parties, there is still one crucial stage left: the finalization with the signing of the contract.
The obstacle that currently keeps Taylor away from the final “yes” is not competitive or financial, but concerns his personal life and adapting to a completely new environment. To date, Taylor has never played outside of Scotland and the possibility of relocating abroad brings with it natural hesitations.
The footballer recently became a father and the issue of family relocation plays a decisive role in his final decision. The environment and living conditions in Thessaloniki are factors that he and his family want to carefully evaluate.
According to his Instagram account Taylor is on a family holiday in Dubai, a stop off in Greece could be on the cards before he makes his final decision.
It is unclear if there is still an offer on the table from Celtic with the return of Kieran Tierney effectively demoting Taylor’s status.
It won’t be an easy task trying to recruit a decent quality left-back on the basis that they will only ever be back up for Tierney but with Taylor nearing an exit it adds another task to Celtic’s summer recruitment plan.
Need to keep him. Can play in front of teirney
That PAOK report doesn’t make sense.
In any job, if there is the possibility of relocating overseas,
you discuss – and agree – with your partner and family at the early outset,
and certainly not at the contract signing stage – when you should be fully committed at that point?
