Guillem Balague has followed up on the Luka Modric hasn’t said no to joining Dave Ancelotti story spun by BBC Scotland in midweek.
As an experienced journalist well aware of the media landscape in Scotland Balague knew exactly why he was contacted by the state broadcaster with their club three months on from sacking Phil Clement.
Like commercial operators the purpose of the sports department at BBC Scotland is to produce comforting stories for long suffering bears.
Stories to deflect their thoughts away from Scotland’s most successful club, the one that has won 13 of the last14 titles and 21 of the last 27 domestic trophies.
With Tom English, Kenny Macintyre, Alasdair Lamont, Steven Thompson and Jane Lewis as presenters the script is secure, for variety and diversity they call on Steven Naismith, Billy Dodds, Cammy Bell, Ian McCall, Neil McCann, Rory Loy and Shelley Kerr for their views.
During the summer Saturday’s Macintyre will call in his contacts to discuss all matters Ibrox, after his midweek ‘Modric hasn’t said no’ story Balague was back on destroying his credibility.

Balague: A solution about the manager at Rangers should take place before the end of next week because he’s got three other offers that he’ll consider, study and continue conversations with the idea of taking that step (leaving Daddy to become a real manager).
Plan B would be or worst case scenario, he doesn’t get convinced by anything or the timing isn’t right or whatever and then he goes back with Carlo and Brazil. That would really be a last resort.
He really likes the fact that Rangers, I got the impression that he really felt that the club was impressed as well… but, at the same time, the takeover and other issues I was told delayed matters, now it should happen soon.
As you said as well it was a matter of two candidates at this point.
Macintyre comes in, blah blah blah, WE ARE THE PEEEEEEEEPEL etc, is it your understanding that Rangers would be his first choice?
Balague: Yes. I’m pretty convinced that he has everything required to jump into the big stage on his own and do something impressive.
If it is by the words of Real Madrid players, players that he has had, some of which have told him ‘take me to Rangers’
Macintyre hahahahahahahahahaha
Balague: Well you think ‘wages might just be a little bit of a problem’. But, I had that conversation. By the way, if you allow me, I did say that Modric had finished his contract, and that type of conversation had taken place- but Modric did not commit at all or anything. But it was a point that I made in the blog today, look, this is the kind of conversations that he can have and people listen to him because they’ve been impressed by his work.
That somehow became that Modric was going to Rangers- which he is not- and, anyway, beside that, you are talking of, a calibre, of potential, because you don’t really know but potentially one of those managers that will make a big career in Europe.

Yeah, just like Micky Beale, Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha. Potentially Tom English and Kenny Macintyre could be presenting Match of the Day next season, or signing up for a 2 for 1 offer at Scottish Slimmers.

It’s the hope that will kill them.
Keevins -“Cavenagh is, with his feet now firmly under the table in the Blue Room, manoeuvring Rangers towards the door marked “21st Century” ”
That is one hell of a leap from the 17th century.
Park has been papped out but he won’t have the cajones to ask for his money.
Keevins then added this:
“…former actors in the Ibrox melodrama, which has lasted since administration became liquidation in 2011,
must now leave the stage and take the past with them…”
If Keevins can’t even remember the year of the most scandalous period in Scottish football,
then he simply has no place in covering the game anymore?
Plenty Celtic ‘supporters’ will happily keep him in a job Bob (sadly) !
