Mark Warburton has indulged himself in another round of self-pitying interviews about how unfortunate he was while managing at Ibrox.
As everyone was informed from day one up the marble staircase Warbo was a former city trader, dealing in billions every day on the London Stock Market while harbouring a dream of becoming a big time football manager.
The story goes that he started to drive the team bus for the Watford u-8 team, everyone was so impressed by him that he was promoted to laying out the bibs and cones for the u-14 side.
One thing led to another as he became manager of Brentford, with Davie Weir as his assistant the call came to take charge of Sevco after the hilarious Play Off defeat to Motherwell.
After storming to promotion out of the Championship in season 2015/16 Warbo was ready to deliver the SPFL Premiership title with wise judges like Hugh Keevins and Derek Johnstone tipping the former city banker to send Brendan Rodgers into unemployment without a trophy to his name.
Joey Barton, Nicky Kranjcar, Pip Senderos and Joey Barton were in the Starting XI at Celtic Park on September 10. Lee Wallace captained the team with Kenny Miller ‘knowing that it is all about’.
Over 90 minutes Warburton and his team were utterly trashed, handed a lesson in football terms and also reminded that talking is best performed on the park.
After the match Warbo told BBC Scotland:
It’s game five of a long season. We don’t see a major gulf. We just got beat 5-1. They have bragging rights and deserved to win.

On day one of the new season the message from Ibrox was GOING FOR 55, Warbo said nothing at the time but in hindsight he told the Record:
They were lighting the blue-touch paper for the Ibrox fans when I wanted to calm things down.
That’s not me lacking optimism or desire. No. I just realised that Celtic still probably had five times our budget. I would say conservatively five times more.
After the 5-1 hammering the points gap to Celtic grew and grew, Warburton added:
Equally there were all the headlines about us being so many points behind Celtic. What did they expect?
I’m looking at the squad we had. Jason Holt, Andy Halliday, guys I can’t speak highly enough about. Dom Ball too. But these were players on minimal wages compared to the sums being spent by Celtic.
And of course we then have that game at Parkhead. We have Rob Kiernan and Philippe Senderos sent off, are down to nine men with a back three of Barton, Lee Wallace and James Tavernier.
WRONG: Senderos was sent off in the 75th minute, Kiernan was substituted three minutes earlier for Harry Forrester.
I remember being told after that game that I should have just shut up shop and taken a 3-1 defeat.
However, if you remember just after half-time when the score was only 2-1, Barrie McKay fires a huge chance an inch wide of the post. I’m going at that moment, ‘We’re in this…’
Reflecting on his first season at Ibrox the former city trader claimed:
It wasn’t in a negative way but it was me realising that our budget was still a fraction of Celtic’s.
Guys like Dom Ball, I kid you not, were probably on one-tenth of what some Celtic players were earning.
Our entire midfield in that semi-final was on less than one of their midfield players. So my point was, not negatively, but this result is just a building block.
We knew that nine times out of 10, Celtic would have won that game.
Then you consider that the next season when we returned to the Premiership, Celtic had added again. They had some real quality on the pitch, bringing in guys like Moussa Dembele. Again, his wage was multiples of most of my squad
Maybe if Barton, Senderos and Kranjcar weren’t earning 10 times more than Halliday and Holt there would have been greater harmony in Warburton’s squad.
Scott Sinclair was probably the only Celtic player on EPL wages, arriving from Burnley as a free agent Barton was the highest paid player in Scotland before he removed his coffee machine from Murray Park.

Paying those galacticos EPL wages would not have made them any better. If they had our budget all that would have happened is they would have squandered even more. Until they start getting value and a return on what they invest they will never get near us. They may win a cup here or there, maybe even a title when we inevitably let the board shoot ourselves in the foot but they will always remain Alsoran FC.
Well,Sevies wage bill is much higher than the Champions of Scotland and they’re still pish.
