Dumbarton fans have banded together to save their club from liquidation!
It is an incredible achievement by a couple of hundred diehard fans who banded together to save the 1890/91 Scottish champions.
In October Dumbarton went into administration, were docked 15 points that plunged them towards relegation to Division Two.
Undeterred by that and haunted by the fates of Airdrie, Gretna and Rangers where fans stood back allowing their club to die the Dumbarton supporters have followed Hearts, Dundee, Dunfermline, Motherwell and Livingston by finding a buyer for their club.

Craig Morrison and Ian Wright, the Joint Administrators of The Dumbarton Football Club Ltd are delighted to confirm the completion of the sale of the Club to Mario Lapointe.
They have said: “So many people have helped to get to this conclusion but most importantly has been the support of the fans.
“We wish Mario and everyone involved with the Club every success for the season ahead and for the longer term future of the Sons.”
The club will release a full statement later today.
Down the years Celtic have benefitted from Tom McAdam, Murdo MacLeod and Graeme Sinclair starting their careers with Dumbarton, going the opposite way Willie Wallace and Charlie Gallagher finished up at Dumbarton with Sean Fallon having a spell as manager.
In season 2017/18 Celtic hosted their UEFA Youth League matches against Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and Anderlecht at the Dumbarton Stadium.

Never let them pretend their old club survived
They knew exactly what liquidation meant
Terrific Fergus, ‘lest they forget’.
And never forget Peter Thomas Lawwell’s part in the fake new huns being the ‘same club’ either. The enemy within. GHTF. And he must’ve lied to the AGM about never having seen the 5-Way when Nicholson, at a later time, admitted knowing of it but seeing nothing wrong with it. Celtic’s enemies are not all the scum from Ibrox, a few of them sit on our board and one is, against all best practice, the chairman. What a disgrace! A PLC being run by 2 men, Lawwell and Desmond for decades and without organised challenge. Words fail me!
Funny how there was no talk of holding companies or engine room subsidiaries (and not the club) going bust when it came to Dumbarton. Or the other clubs listed above that faced the same fate. Except one. You would almost think that the Scottish media and football authorities had an agenda that favoured one club over all the others. But surely not?!
I somehow doubt if the SMSM will be spending much time on this story ? When a football club and liquidation and debt and being saved from extinction , are all used in the one story , it tends to immediately make people remember similar events of 13 years ago …and that is strictly taboo for the nodding dog ,faithful to a fault , loyal scoops …get off the subject , tout suite !
Exactly. It’s almost like those events have been magically (and conveniently) airbrushed from history!
Well done Sons of the Rock.
Shame on you Sons of Strewth.
It is important that this historic club has been saved. C’mon the sons of the rock.
I echo your sentiment above Tony B.
Shame on the SFA for docking the Sons points last season. Absolutely needless.
How different from the SFA approach with the now extinct Ibrox club who they helped every inch of the way to reinvent themselves as a new club who have replaced the old one. Shame on them for pretending that they won the trophies of the old, dead club. Shame also on the phoenix club.
If any Huns of my acquaintance try the ould “We came out of/exited administration”, I generally put these questions to them:
If Rangers1872 came out of/exited administration, why were LIQUIDATORS appointed by a Sheriff, to oversee the affairs of the club? Why did LIQUIDATORS carry out the final winding up of the club?
This generally produces one of two reactions. Either the Huns run for the hills OR they storm away in a huff, muttering something about “Fkn Fenian bastards.”
It’s great fun, bhoys. Give it a go.
Hail Hail.
I got sent A4 screenshots of all the Scummy’s front page headlines of the time…
It’s beautiful reading for sure…
I got a lassie in a print shop to reduce them to pocket size…
Perfect for the pub on a Saturday when Sevco ones are in and ‘up’ for debate…
That ‘debate’ doesn’t last very long when I whip out that visual evidence…
One called me a ‘sad bastard’
No I’m not – I’m a very very happy bastard that they died…
Sevco That is And not Dumbarton FC who it looks like they haven’t died after all !
We shouldn’t speak ill of the dead, Clach…but in the case of Rangers1872, it would be rude not to.
Hail Hail.
