49GERS hang Russell Martin out to dry

A week before facing Panathinaikos in a Champions League qualifier none of the contracted players have left Ibrox.

Last spring supporters consoled themselves that their new owners would have a clear out of the serial losers as they tooled up for a full on Revolution!

Billy Dodds admitted to BBC Scotland that 70% of the squad were dragging down the other 30%, a worrying state of affairs.

Including the already agreed Lyall Cameron, six players have been added to last seasons squad.

Ianis Hagi, Vaclav Cerny, Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun moved on at the end of their contracts while Ben Davies, Kieran Dowell, Rabbi Matondo and Jose Cifuentes returned from being out on loan last season.

You could say that the squad is bloated, you could add that footballers don’t tend to volunteer to take pay cuts when they can sit tight, turn up for training and get that monthly boost to their bank balance.

Robin Propper is in no rush to walk away from his current wages to return to FC Twente, a year ago he moved to Ibrox for increased wages so has no reason to return to his 2024 salary.

There is no record of how long his contract runs for, hopefully he has two or three years to run.

Martin’s comments after the 2-2 draw with Brugge raised expectations that the flops are moving on.

Only those players and their agents benefitted from that, they saw what happened last season when five players left Ibrox, no doubt with sweeteners with just £810,000 going into the bank account.

Kev Thelwell would love to get rid of 10 or more salaries from the payroll but it will be cold hard cash that enables that rather than wishful thinking from a manager that is a member of the Green Party.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

They still gave that magic mo eye tree of £120 million bang bangs to fall back on,no need to worry about players being moved on,in Harry Enfield language, they have LOADSAMONEY.

Lol off topic here but I had to laugh at Lennon’s excuse for the SCUDDING his team took at the weekend, his excuse fatigue had set in,it was Dunfermline opening game of the season and fatigue set in.
Lol just how they get through the remainder of the season after 1 game and fatigue setting in is anyone’s guess.

Why do you always mention that Martin is a member of The Green party as if it’s something to ridicule him about?

Editor: It is a reminder to Ra Peepel that Russ is a wee bit different to them, his culture is different, he’s not like wee Barry, Doddsy or Greegsy.
