Twenty-seven years down the line some classic words from Hugh Keevins stand the test of time.

In the second half of 1998 Dave Murray was absolutely in his pomp, having lost out on 10-in-a-row Rangers went on an incredible summer spending spree where money seemed to be no object,

That did rebound on the club somewhat.

Celtic did dither, Wim Jansen left as manager, eventually with pre-season matches underway Jo Venglos was appointed, 10 players returning from the World Cup in France was an awesome obstacle to overcome.

Murray splashed out on the ageing Colin Hendry to give his new look side a Scottish indentity even though Dick Advocaat wasn’t a fan.

When Manchester United showed interest in Daniel Prodan Murray snapped him up with barely a medical taking place, the Romanian defender never played a competitive match.

Summing up the gulf between the two clubs Celtic signed a 30 plus midfielder from German minnows Duisburg, Keevins and his chums found it hilarious.

Moravcik could have turned up at the Daily Record office in full Czechoslovakia World Cup 1990 kit doing keepy-uppy and not be recognised while wee Spenny could do no wrong.

Moravcik played just over 100 games for Celtic but left thousands of memories, he scored twice in his first Glasgow Derby then repeated that achievement at Ibrox as Martin O’Neill’s side won Celtic’s first treble in 32 years.

Today whenever Lubo is in town fans gather for some classic tales, many are too young to have seen him play for Celtic but they know all about the magic.

Keevins continues to emotionally invest in all things Ibrox, 18 years after his Lubo comments he told Radio Clyde listeners that Mark Warburton would show up Brendan Rodgers by delivering the SPFL Premiership title in the Tribute Act’s first ever season in the top flight. Derek Johnstone nodded in agreement.

Second time around Keevins has been telling Sunday Mail readers that it is time up for Rodgers, Rodgers II has already seen Micky Beale, Phil Clement and Barry Ferguson come and go from Ibrox.

Another season and another Revolution is brewing at Ibrox, readers of the Sunday Mail and listeners to Radio Clyde could easily be forgiven to think that they are stuck in 1998.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

  • Kerryair says:

A thick, incompetent, inarticulate hack. Introduced in the Celtic Supporters Club in Irvine as similar to Paul Le Guen, both have priests for brothers. This Uncle Tom hack is bitter and twisted at the treatment he received from Kenny Dalglish back in 2000. should have been put out to pasture 25 years ago. No knowledge of the game, constantly gets facts wrong, and his opinions and forecasts are, at best, laughable. At least the hun hoards in the media have an excuse for their ignorance, Keevins does not. A poor, poor, journalist, who only has one gig, and it baffles me why any Tim would want to listed to that radio station. There is nothing on it for you.

You forgot to mention the ( absolutely not good enough) quote when big ange came in , still the man thinks he can say no wrong, can’t wait to hear his predictions for this coming year. HH

  • Matt says:

Who can for get his Absolutely Not Good Enough quote as well. The man made a living in an industry where being a Catholic was considered worse than being a leper.

  • Harold Shand says:

Don’t forget Keevins writing off Kuhn , branding him ” Dreadful and a waste of money ” after only a couple of games

Then sitting revelling in it on a radio show doing a pre planned hatchet job on the player with a German hack on the phone
