Lewis Dobbie is the latest player to confirm that Celtic’s policy of playing in the Lowland League isn’t producing first team ready players.
On Friday night another campaign gets underway with a home match against Broxburn Athletic in the Lowland League where the main highlight is the promotion of the new Clydebank.
Dobbie turned 19 at the end of June, scored 26 goals in 57 Lowland League appearances, made eight appearances in the UEFA Youth League and decided that joining Division Two East Kilbride was a better option than another term in the graveyard that is the Lowland League.

Recently Lenny Agbaire and Liam Bonetig left Celtic with Daniel Cummings the highest profile player to quit the B team set up.
With Jude Bonnar joining Ayr United and talks over Kyle Ure and Josh Clarke moving to Partick Thistle it does seem that Celtic are finally aware that the Lowland League won’t produce players ready for the first team.
Like Dobbie, Joe Morrison is also at East Kilbride, on loan for the season.
Francis Turley and Sean McArdle managed to make brief substitute appearances in the SPFL Premiership last season, little is known about their prospects for the new season with the only certainty being that playing in the Lowland League won’t develop their career in any way.
Over the course of four seasons Owen Moffat is the only player to move from the Lowland League to start an SPFL Premiership match, playing 62 minutes away to St Mirren in December 2021, his last appearance as a Celtic player.

The article suggests Joe Morrison is on loan at East Kilbride. I’m not sure that’s correct – both him and Lewis Dobbie were released by Celtic B team, so both are permanent transfers.
