Shin Yamada has still to receive international clearance from UEFA to play for Celtic.
The club announced the signing of the striker from Kawasake Frontale at 9am on Saturday morning then introduced him to the fans before the 4-0 home win over Newcastle.
Yamada was covered in the Inside Lennoxtown video released by Celtic and travelled with the squad to Como on Wednesday.
After being named as a substitute for the match against Ajax he was removed from that list, denying the Japanese striker his Celtic debut.
After discussing a variety of issues following the 5-1 defeat Brendan Rodgers told the Daily Record:
We were told late on he wasn’t registered. He couldn’t play in the game. It was a UEFA game.
I think we thought it would be through. So, he obviously came with us and travelled.
But then, later on, an hour before the game, we were told he wasn’t.
We hope he’ll be okay for Saturday. Hopefully for the player. So, let’s see where that goes tomorrow
It is almost mandatory on signing statements to mention subject to international clearance which is usually a formality.
Celtic rarely slip up with these sort of issues but it seems that word didn’t get through to the manager that clearance hadn’t been received to select Yamada as a substitute against Ajax.
Celtic have plenty of experience of transfers from Japan, clearance is needed from the SFA and Scottish Government for permission to work.
On Saturday Celtic face Al Ahli with fans looking out to see if Yamada can be involved in the final pre-season match before the SPFL Premiership opener at home to St Mirren.
Deff a strange situation too find yourself in, it doesn’t ooze an air of professionalism,if the squad was named to be travelling surely things should have been in place,

If I was in any way a cynical Individual, I could quite easily be thinking that Brendan not getting the ‘ memo ‘ for the player not having ‘ clearance ‘ to play , was taken and made from the top people on the board.. currently ? To make him look like an SFA official , presumably ! I really am beginning to see a rather large crack appear between the manager and the ‘ suits ! ‘ If so , there inevitable will be a loser ?
