Although predictable and expected there was still a lot of anger around at news of Celtic having three bids rejected by Go Ahead Eagles for Jakob Breum.
At the start of this month Nicolas Kuhn was sold for £17m to Como, Celtic’s recruitment team placed an initial valuation on his replacement of less than 10% of that fee!
If Breum is only valued at £1.5m he will be of little use to Brendan Rodgers as he tries to steer Celtic into the lucrative group stage of the Champions League, the platform that brought Kuhn to the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
It seems that Celtic have revalued the Danish winger to double their original bid, perhaps if they had opened with that offer they’d be treated seriously and a deal could be done?
As Rodgers begins preparations for the SPFL opener on Sunday he is working with four wingers. One that he probably prefers to play as a striker, one is 34 years-old, one has a deal to join Rapid Vienna in the pending file and the other is Yang Hyun-jun.
No wonder the Celtic boss has openly questioned the ambitions of a club sitting on a £15m transfer surplus from the current window.
?? / ????????. ????????. ????????.
Celtic have had THREE bids rejected by Go Ahead Eagles for winger Jakob Breum.
Our initial offer of £1.5M was thrown out with the Dutch side wanting £6.5M.
Celtic’s top offer was £3M.

It seems fairly clear that his negotiating skills were honed working alongside the current club Chairman. The guy that was unable to strike a deal for a former Celtic Season Ticket holder, the grandson of a former Celtic Chairman in the final year of his contract. Instead Rodgers was presented with Youssouf Mulumbu in the summer of 2018.
Seven years later it seems that Rodgers has put his foot down following the sales of Kyogo and Kuhn with no serious attempts at bringing in replacements.
If anyone else is sold the manager will make his unhappiness public but he won’t be resigning or negotiating with another club to move on.
In February 2019 the whole episode was concluded in less than 48 hours, almost in a cloak of secrecy with Rodgers the villain of the piece.
This time it will be much slower, be carried out in the media glare with the blame to be shared, while Nicholson digs out the favoured old quotes including the much loved claim about it being a notoriously difficult window to do business. Unless you are buying from Celtic where it is very straight forward.
Why did details of the Breum bid become public? Was it to troll the manager about what he could have had?
Happy clappers will tell you that’s how negotiations work…….this is the reason we’ve not signed any quality cause we’re not a serious football club.

We just sold a winger for £17m and expect others to sell theirs for £3m max
Yes we are a developing and selling club but honestly this
Bargain basement is ok for squad we need first team

Disgusting behaviour! Fans are getting taken for mugs

Go Ahead wanted 5 mill a couple days ago, and they are quite to push up the price after our insulting bids imo.
It took us 3 attempts to just reach over half of what they originally wanted and now we’re under half again, due to our board being shite at negotiating transfers ????
— Lewis ? (@CelticBhoy41) July 27, 2025
An embarassment. We either rate this guy or not . If you know their asking price and want to negotiate, you need to at least be close. £1.5m is frankly embrassing and clubs, agents and players will just be laughing at the state of it all
— PicklesMcPickle (@StenFluffman) July 27, 2025
If I was a club getting these kind of offers I would just tell us (Celtic) sorry but we are not dealing with you anymore out of principle. The offers are embarrassing for a club of our size and with our cash reserves.
— Mark Murphy ?? (@Markyjig) July 27, 2025
This is one of those “inefficiencies” of hoarding a huge pile of cash. Clubs know you’re minted and, quite rightly, will try to fleece you. Slap it into us.

“Nobody Wants Our Money!”?
Reminds me of buying my first suit from Jackson the Tailor in the mid 1970s.
A fiver down with a book issued for thirty bob a week thereafter. At least I was kitted out though. Looks like we wish to adopt the in house tailoring as used in the purchase of the emporers new clothes. If we don’t get our finger out Brendan will be left bollocko at windows end by the utter parsimony of the board.
Peter lawell and Michael Nicholson are a cancer, and are loathed by the vast majority of Celtic fans, not hated loathed.
Groundhog Day.
It would be great to get Lawwell, Nicholson and the rest out, but at present there is no mechanism for doing so.
At least Charlie Green pissed off to France with his ill-gotten gains.
Did these clowns not learn anything from their dealings with Norwich last year when they eventually paid double what Idah is actually worth?
We now have to accept that we are not a serious football club anymore.
If it was not for the fans, Celtic would be NOTHING!
Think on that! Think on Fergus McCann and the wonderful Brian Dempsey and the group who sorted out the last mob of Shysters.
This present Board got rid of Dom McKay as he WAS a true professional from the rugby world, where he was greatly respected and was looking to improve the football department rather than hoard money in the bank. So our board sacked him quickly because they knew that they would be challenged and they don’t like that.
If you want to improve in life you have to challenge yourself, whether you are an individual of an organisation. We are not doing that! The writing is on the wall and we fans have let them away with it.
A board with no ambition
They do have ambition Batfink…its to be as wealthy as possible…End of.
Quite right, Terence. The generosity of the PLC board knows no bounds…when it comes to themselves.
Get rid of the Board and start again!
PL pursues totally risk averse signings.
He wants players in that almost guarantee money back minimum if it doesn’t work out.
What a way to build a squad.
But in reality, PL isn’t really interested in squad building.
PL wants players on the cheap, maybe get lucky when a 3m turns into a 20+ player and punt them on at the first opportunity.
Who’s the last player Celtic signed, became a valuable financial asset and stayed ?
Build on the cheap, sell as soon as they are worth anything.
You can’t build for the future or plan ahead even one season when thats the strategy.
Even the money we have collected for sell on fees proves we have had the talent in the building but they are gone at the first sniff of a big profit.
Right now, I don’t see any player in our squad with any real creativity, game changing creativity, Maeda has speed but that can hardly change a game on its own.
I know the EPL work on fantasy cash but can you even imagine a Man City or a Liverpool behaving like this in the transfer market whilst still trying to stay at the top of their league and may an impact in Europe?
Without doing a Sevco and bankrupting ourselves, we have the financial muscle to stave off any opposition at home whilst at least gaining some respect in the european games, none of us think we will ever compete in the latter stages of the CL but we should be competitive in the others.
But its all managed decline, keep Sevco close cos the TV deals need the rivalry, they don’t want Celtic pumping Sevco every game, they don’t want a title over before Xmas, PL needs his “old firm” brand.
The only thing thats changed is, instead of Sevco spending themselves into a grave to catch Celtic, Celtic have stopped spending to so that they don’t have to.
I don’t think celtic fans would blame Rodgers if he left between now and Christmas but does he have the ambition to better the club like he says he does? Pleading with the board for cash he should be demanding it or is he just happy with his £3million a year wage
They do have ambition Batfink…its to be as wealthy as possible…End of.
Jakob has an impressive youth selection record for his country at every age level.
Breakout year was last season at the senior level for Eagles. 10 goals from 26 appearances in the Erevidise.
Previous 2023/24 season, 3 goals from 32 appearances. Assist data is most important for wingers. I can’t find that info for Jakob. What if he turns up and Fans say, “way below Nicholas’ level”? For me, likely. The Celtic recruiters think he can do the job.
Has Yang ever played more than 30 minutes?. I think he is a capable player.
At the end of the A League, a friend of mine told me that once Tilio got onto a roll for Melbourne City, he supplied lots of valuable pre-assists and assists. That reference from Aust, means nothing in Scotland.
Marco wasn’t the only player “out of sorts” in the first half against Al Ahli. Too much on that topic.
Anyway he’s on his bike, so I read.. Fascinating season ahead.
What pisses me off as much as anything…is the SILENCE from the Board …No one there feels it neccessary to explain or clarify what is going on …and all we get is BR with what I would describe as waffle…That sums up how the support is treated…but its no surprise to me…KERCHING is the name of the game…and we can go feck ourselves.
Nobody to blame but yourselves I’m afraid,
Me and my family made a stand after the COVID cup shambles turning our back on 10 in a row . We handed in our season tickets . At the time there were a lot of keyboard warriors threatening the same action to show the greedy board what they are doing g is not what we want but I think in total only around 5000 never renewed.
So hardly the shot across the bows that it was intended to be . What do you all really expect to happen while you do nothing about it?
Mediocrity, just but no more ahead of the Huns, creating a scenario that no real decent manager will tolerate but all done at your own expense. I fir one value my family higher than I do paying Nicholson & tge Lawell family’s bonuses but clearly I’m in the minority so I’d say put up or shut up and keep waving flags while tge club misses a guilt edged opportunity to blow the Huns out tge water
A man after my own heart…Totally agree with all you said…I gave up my long held ST as well…backed up by my grandson…who supported his Papa…Will it catch on…??….Not a feckin’ chance…Happy clappers and the faithful through and through brigade will see to that…We get what we deserve.
I understand your point Paul and fair play to you, but you can hardly criticise Season ticket holders who have been going for 20+ years to suddenly give up because the board are messing up transfers. I for one will protest the board inside the stadium.
Messing up transfers…RES 12….5 Way Agreement….EBT’s…Imperfectly Registered…Yeah not a lot to get anyone upset Jonathon
Spot on Terence, with this boards attitude, let’s just stay ahead of sevco, never heard of the 5 way my arse , liewell and the board are keeping us just slightly ahead of sevco,no ambition outside of wee jockland.
Paul that’s a wonderful post mate, been saying it for a while now nothing will change with this shower of charlatans as long as ST money and Celtic TV and merchandise money keeps rolling in year on year, why would they change, but I needs as you say a concerted effort to get the message across.
OK, we don’t know as fact what goes on behind the scenes,
but we are all fully aware of how these poor transfer windows repeat, on a loop, at our club.
Nothing seems to improve, [apart from that brief blip during Ange’s tenure.]
And, I am a wee bit disappointed with BR.
It would seem that he has decided to keep his head down, and see out his final year?
A manager of his experience and standing ‘should’ be able to take on the Board?
He might still have to leave at season end, [or before],
but he would be doing the club a massive service
if he ruffled a few feathers / rocked the boat / forced meaningful change before he left?
If nothing changes before BR leaves,
then we are all going to get even more frustrated / disillusioned with how the club is run?
As a little aside, I have always looked on Alex Ferguson as a bit of an asshole which is perhaps ridiculous given his success but I hear he is moving back to Glasgow and getting involved with Sevco.
I suppose the good thing is that the new club cannot be accused of treating his late wife as a second-class citizen like the original one did but some husband to disrespect her memory when the present incumbents and fans claim they are the same thing.
Jonathan?
20 odd years ?
Where would we be if the people didnt stand up when Fergus took over?
Bet there were 20 odd year guys there aswell
Thing is back then it was a different society, Celtic was a thing a working class thing that we had in common
The sheer amount of season tickets these days has shifted the power to the board as you pay in advance and rightly turn up because you’ve paid for it
You can protest from inside the stadium all you want but you’re a joke to them that way because you’ve already handed over your money in advance months ago
Turn up write your blog buy the merch post the photos
Whimper about the bad deal they give you but pay them anyway
Ludicrous and ridiculous
Another excellent reply to Jonathan, well said Paul.
Marco Tilio at his best, 2025 Season with A-League Champions Melbourne City. Rapid Wien have a cracker of a player, Well done Vienna.

Editor: Can you tell me on anyone over 22 that has left the A-League to have a top career in Europe other than Tom Rogic? Melbourne City is Tilio’s level. Says more about Celtic scouting than it does the player.
