Daily Record reporter claims Celtic will make three £6m plus signings!

Michael Gannon of the Daily Record is expecting Celtic to splash the cash with three or four players coming in costing upwards of £20m.

So far in the transfer window Celtic have spent around £3m to sign Ben Nygren, Shin Yamada and Hayato Inamura.

Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan have been signed as free agents with a Development Fee to be paid to Fulham for Callum Osmond.

Celtic went into the transfer window with over £80m sitting in the bank with Brendan Rodgers frustrated by the January failure to replace Kyogo Furuhashi.

Already Nicolas Kuhn has been sold with no sign of any replacement coming in, the SPFL Premiership season starts on August 3 with the final preparations being made at the Como Cup this weekend.

There is very little sign of transfer activity around the club but speaking on the Record Celtic Podcast, Gannon was very confident that some big money signings will be made.

GANNON: I think that they will get in three or four fairly substantial signings, yeah,. It is just a question of when, do they get them in the next week or so which would be ideal, get them in for the start of the (SPFL) season and playing for two or three weeks and into that (Champions League) qualifier.

Or do they need to sit tight and barter their way right  through until the end of August and try and get it done before the qualifier.

It is a question of when, it is not if because they will bring in three, four, probably three…. I would be amazed if less than three £5m plus players came in, or three £6m plus players came in. I think that they will spend £20m on three or four players.

They’ll get three £6m or £6./7m players in, that’s the kind of level of player and maybe one loan player towards the end with a view to buy, something like that. We know the model, we see it every year.

Supporters know the model very well and that is to produce a transfer surplus on the Balance Sheet regardless of the consequences for the team on the park.

The classic example was in 2023 when £30m was raised by selling Jota and Carl Starfelt at a time when Aaron Mooy announced his retirement.

Just over £20m was wasted on Marco Tilio, Luis Palma, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Gus Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki and Odin Thiago Holm.

Other than a three month burst of form from Palma none of those signings made any improvement to the team, all of them were signed onto five year contracts.
