Sky Sports News are claiming that the fee to take Manny Fernandez to Ibrox could reach £3.5m!
It seems an incredible figure for a defender that played in 30 out of 46 League One matches for the club that finished 18th out of 24 clubs with the worst defensive record in the division.
In season 23/24 Fernandez played in seven League One matches after stepping up from the National League where he started eight matches for Barnet.
Other than Norwich City it seems that no other clubs were interested in signing the 23-year-old, on Wednesday night the 49GERS got the cheque book out to spend big.
After drooling over Joe Rothwell Sky Sports reports:
However, the incomings soon amounted to four as, later on Wednesday 23-year-old defender Fernandez agreed a four-year deal to make the switch from League One. It’s understood Rangers and Peterborough agreed a deal of £3.5m with add-ons for the centre-back.
The centre-back said he was “shocked” to get the call from Rangers, having begun his career at Brentford before spells with Gillingham and Ramsgate.
It seems an incredible price to pay for a defender with a CV that has workmanlike and jobsworth stamped all over it.
With the 49GERS now fully in charge it appears that their data has come up with a gem right under the noses of the biggest spenders in world football, plus Leeds United.
Last night Peterborough chiefs Barry Fry and Darragh MacAnthony were both believed to be in a state of advanced delirium.

Don’t laugh here’s better joke.
£6.5 M.
For the worst player in the history …of our club , Un Trusty.
Makes, Frank Monroe. Willie Gardener.
Pair of Superstars ..
Editor: Worse that Berkovic, Shyte, Barkas, Ajeti? Really, can’t say I recall many of them being involved in a 0-0 Champions League away draw at an Italian team. There are some utterly bonkers opinions among Celtic fans.
Trusty is miles and miles better than Yang, Tilio, Palma, Nawrocki, Holm, Kwon, Kobayashi, Bernabei, Haksabanovic and dozens of others.
PS it is Frank Munro and Willie Garner, both scored own goals on their debuts against St Mirren.
When did they play centre half.. If he’s anywhere near the side this season there will be stewards enquiry .
Absolute Dud. Even Rodgers doesn’t trust him.
Editor: Second attempt, do you think that Trusty is worse than Tilio, Kwon, Yang, Palma, Nawricki, Holm, Bernabei, Haksabanovic, Shved, Vayo, Barkas, Ajeti, Klimala and Soro? There is a common surname involved in all of those deals.
Yes worse that all those Dud.
Editor: Cheers, best of luck with your medication.
Good heavens, resorting to hiding on line, rather cowardly
Grow up.
Personally I would do it in one’s face..
like a man.
Not a mouse.
Joe, totally agree with your comments, Edward, you cannot be serious both Frank Munro and Willie Garner were absolutely hopeless along with most of the others Joe mentioned. I will give Trusty next season and hopefully he will be perform better
£6.5 Million, plus mega wages.
Whipped off at Hampden
Played half a season.
Absolute Bomb scare
Dropped Scottish Cup Final.
Weak defending
Slow to react
Caught ball watching
Lacks pace
Lacks strength
Lacks concentration
Poor passing
No Aggression
No Bottle
Poor in the Air.
More importantly no Stature..
Another season, I’ll be surprised to see him again..
Even Rodgers doesn’t Trust him.
For a ‘reportedly, potential liability ‘ up to c.£3.5M, it could be deemed material to be mentioned in the RIFC Accounts to 30th June 2025,
as a Post Balance Sheet event? Especially for a perennially loss-making business?
…or not. 🙂
Guessing add-ons could include c.£3.45M – for winning the Big Cup itself?!
No one will see the accounts so how will you know. No more agm .just the bare min of info posted on finiancials
They can make anything up. Oh! Wait what, ! Scrub that
At least Fernandez fits into a potential Player Trading Model because of his age. Perhaps he can be trained on & make TRFC a bit of money in the future?
Rothwell however: he’s nearer 31 than 30 & he’s got a 3 year deal (it may be a 2 + 1 option, though). Little value in him in the future.
If they sign Coady, who’s 13 months older than Rothwell, then he’ll likely be done at the end of whatever deal Martin signs off on.
It’s not looking good…
