Jan Streuer of FC Twente has expressed doubts over bringing Robin Propper back to the Dutch club.
A year ago the Twente Technical Director was signing off on a £2.5m transfer for the defender who was welcomed to Ibrox with comparisons being made to Virgil van Dijk and Rudi Krol.
Within a month of the transfer Propper had scored an own goal on his debut, crashed out of the Champions League and got hammered in the Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park.
Barry Ferguson wasn’t a fan when he took over from Phil Clement, since taking charge last month Russell Martin has signed two central defenders and is still hoping to lure Connor Coady from Leicester City.
Propper is reported to have agreed terms to return to Twente but without a pay off he’ll be reporting to Murray Park for training throughout the winter and checking his banking app to ensure that the monthly deposit from the 49GERS has arrived.
Discussing Streuer tonight, the Daily Record reports:
He told De Volkskrant: “All sorts of factors beyond your control (dictate transfers). Just before last season, our captain Robin Propper left at the last minute.
“We really missed him. Rangers bought him. A top Scottish club. You can’t compete with them.
“Now there’s a new manager at Rangers, he might play less. Then he might be able to return.
“But he’ll want to wait and see first if he actually plays less. Do we have to decide: do we wait for that or do we see what happens next?”
There is one delicious other factor involved with the Record adding:
A deal has reportedly been held up while Propper sorts out an arrangement over the remaining three years on his contract at Ibrox – but the Eredivise side appear to be growing impatient with their former captain.
If Propper is contracted until June 2028 that will go down as one of the worst contracts in the history of the club that handed contracts to Rabbi Matondo, Sam Lammers, Jack Butland and repeatedly to James Tavernier.
No detail was given on Propper’s Ibrox contract last summer but just short of his 31st birthday a two year contract would have been fine allowing him to return to Holland next year as a free agent.
If he has a deal with three more years left to run it will take a huge pay off to get the defender to walk away from those wages.

Sevco could be shafted…good and Propper. Ah’ll get ma jaiket.
Ha Ha Ha ! – Might not be on as shoogly a peg as Redtit Robin !!!

Sounds like the person who ratified Propper’s deal was ‘ advised ‘ by Super Swally? Do you remember when they had to start back in the lowest league in the land after liquidation and needed new players as most of the squad bolted the course ? The gardener of the year – Swally – was dishing out contracts for £6000 large a week to players who were mad bookie gamblers , getting caught doing something illegal and naughty …hardly anything has changed it seems ?
