Leon King is the latest Ibrox star to find his transfer exit coming to a dead end.
The defender was given the full Ross McCrorie/John Fleck/Nathan Patterson treatment before he had played a first team match.
King was given all the hype but when he was thrown in the deep end he sunk without trace.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side became the worst ever in the history of the Champions League in 2022 with King played 373 of the 540 minutes available.
At home to Liverpool in an eight goal thriller he came on as a half-time substitute for Connor Goldson, getting a close up view of six goals in 45 minutes for the visitors.
Despite that baggage Wycombe Wanderers agreed a deal with the Ibrox Tribute Act for the defender but were unable to match King’s current wages.
Cyriel Dessers, Robin Propper and Hamza Igamane have all agreed contracts to go elsewhere with AEK Athens, FC Twente and Lille all waiting for realistic valuations before nailing down a transfer fee.
Last summer five top stars including Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers and Goldson were sold for combined fees of £810,000.
Revealing the twist to King’s Ibrox exit the Daily Record reports:
Wycombe Wanderers’ move for Rangers defender Leon King looks to be OFF after the player stalled on the deal.
The English League One outfit had agreed a transfer fee with the Ibrox club to buy the 21-year-old centre-back.
King has one year left on his Gers contract and is surplus to requirements under new boss Russell Martin.
Wycombe were confident of securing King on a three-year deal – and had the Scot down at their Marlow Road training base.
Gaffer Mike Dodds wanted him for a promotion tilt – alongside another ex-Gers pal Alex Lowry – as they try to reach the Championship.
But Record Sport understands the move is on the verge of collapse – with King looking to assess options elsewhere.
There won’t be a stampede of interest in King who still appears traumatised by his role in the record breaking 2022 Champions League campaign under van Bronckhorst.
Micky Beale and Phil Clement have kept him as far away from first team action as possible- on Sunday against Club Brugge he was given the suicide note of being paired with Propper by Russell Martin.
Karma is indeed a bitch and whilst I have a wee bit of sympathy for the lad I have absolutely NONE for his company which has NEVER in its 13 year history actually been a football club as it didn’t enter football by the proper, recognised route but by smoke, mirrors and lies.

Maybe they should try to get the currently unattached Barrie McKay as well – a better prospect than Tierney apparently, although 1 international cap versus 50 and counting suggests otherwise – to complete a trio of ‘woulda coulda shoulda’ contenders from the Murray Park conveyor belt of talent…..might not improve their chances of reaching The Championship though – League Two might be more likely!
Not that our youth academy is producing enough first-team players, but at least they aren’t routinely built up to fail by the laptop loyal dubbing them the next Lionel Messi, Franz Beckenbauer or George Best before they’ve even reached double figures for first team appearances.
