Maik Nawrocki is on the brink of joining Hannover 96 on a season long loan.
The defender started just three SPFL Premiership matches last season as fourth pick central defender behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Auston Trusty.
Now, two years on from joining Celtic he is about to go out on loan to a Bundesliga 2 club.
The Sun reports:
CELTIC defender Maik Nawrocki is reportedly on the verge of joining Hannover 96 on loan, with an option to make the move permanent.
The centre-back has struggled to make an impact at the Hoops since joining from Legia Warsaw in 2023 in a £4million move.
The 24-year-old played just handful of times for Brendan Rodgers’ side last season, including in the 3-2 defeat to Rangers at Celtic Park.
Now he looks set to bring his time at the club to an end, according to Sky?Sports?Germany.
German journalist Florian Plettenberg says the transfer “is a done deal”, with Nawrocki joining Hannover, who play in Bundesliga.2 initially on loan but with the option to buy.
He says the medical is complete, the last paperwork is finalised and an announcement will be made soon.
With Gus Lagerbielke close to agreeing a permanent move to Braga the excess of central defenders is being whittled down.
Carter-Vickers is still in rehab from a close season knee operation which leaves Scales, Trusty, Dane Murray and Stephen Welsh as the central defenders for the matches against Queens Park and Cork City.
Earlier this week Greg Taylor joined PAOK on a three year contract with his regular full-back partner Alistair Johnston’s involvement at international level with Canada only ending this week.
I’d like to know if any supporters on here… DON’T rate this guy…My smallish group of Celtic men all think he deserves better…and have no clue why BR doesn’t…Cheers.
Mibbe it’s because Rodgers didn’t sign the guy.
Football managers are notorious for not playing better players who were already at their club before they arrived and bought inferior players to replace the good ones already in situ.
It’s pathetic behavior and also Insulting to players like Maik who has never really been given a chance.
Same goes with Lagerbielke,he gets his chance against Feyenoord in the champions league, scores the winning goal then doesn’t even make the squad for the weekend game 3 days later.
Unreal !!!
Aye balloon heid , there’s definitely something fishy going on at the club with both nawrocki and lagerbielke not getting a look in, every Celtic fan I know says the same thing especially where nawrocki is concerned, very strange behaviour from the manager.
Couldn’t agree more. OK he’s not Baresi or VVD. He’s looked decent enough when actually given a rare chance though – and that’s not easy for any player coming in from a lengthy period of cold storage.
Not sure if Trusty, Scales or Welsh are any better. Lagerbielke and others may have people turning their noses up at them too, but were they given a fair chance? Where was BR’s legendary ability to develop players, that is always cited as one of his big selling points, in their cases? Or is it actually mythical, not legendary? Thought he said he would work with the players he was given when he came back? Not just take the huff and bin any he didn’t personally sign, regardless of their ability or cost.
I’m not anti-BR by the way. I just think he has let his ego get the better of him and got this and possibly others wrong. It’s all about opinions though, so if any of you disagree, then that’s totally fine. We all just want the best for our club after all.
I think it’s disgusting the way nawrocki has been treated by the manager, IMO he is a better defender than scales or trusty but hey what do I know,I don’t think he has been given a proper chance,I’ve heard some rubbish about he kicks with the wrong foot, what shite is that, the only player Celtic have had who was able to kick with both feet was moravcic.at least nawrocki was able to out jump opposition defenders to score a headed goal, this seems like a clash of personalities with Rodgers who is never wrong.
Editor: If he was any good a better team than Hannover 69 would have moved for him.
Cheers Jim…totally agree.
Editor…not a criticism…you’re entitled to your opinion…But…so far…you’re the only one with a negative comment that I’ve come across…It’s a funny old game right enough…Unless of course you know something we don’t.
Aye balloon heid yer right enough, something fishy going on at the club regards these 2 players who the manager obviously doesn’t like, every Celtic fan I know says the same especially where nawrocki is concerned,he or lagerbielke never seemed to get a chance.
The potential for a Scales-Welsh partnership remains, which gives me the fear and is an omnishambles that is the case .Scales is, like Lager-bottle, too frail in a position that needs physical and mental toughness. So many feeble C/H’s been signed and inevitably failed, like Jack Hendry, with Kobayashi being another. The new Japanese player seems to follow in this recruitment flaw.Acid test on any defender should be how will they handle the Huns, especially at Klan-brox? Maik failed in this test as he couldn’t out-do the wee dude Igamane at home in a Derby, proving he’s no Rocky!!!
Trusty n Scales that’s what it’ll be. They wont sign any defender. Same old shit every year
Canny argue given Rodgers success last season…
But there’s a few worrying signs in the calendar year 2025 so far !
