Thelo Aasgaard looks certain to be miss next week’s Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos.
Signed last week following Luton’s relegation to League One the former Wigan star was given the usual hype for signing for Sevco with quotes dug up from Erling Haaland to compare the new star of Ibrox with Rodri.
If that was 10% true Aasgaard would have been snapped up by an English club, instead he moved to Ibrox for a rumoured fee of £3.5m and tipped for a £20m move to the EPL next summer.
A word with Hamza Igamane or Nicky Raskin should explain how likely that is.
Aasgaard was introduced to the Gullible & Deluded at the home friendly against Club Brugge then pitched straight into pre-season training at St George’s Park as Russell Martin targeted having a squad capable of seeing off Panathinaikos over two legs on July 22 and 30.
The new midfielder featured in the 1-1 draw against Barnsley on Saturday but appears to have suffered a set-back during the morale boosting win over Dunfermline reserves on Tuesday afternoon.
Breaking the bad news, The Sun reports:
RANGERS new £3.5million star Thelo Aasgaard is a major injury doubt for the Champions League crunch against Panathinaikos.
The Norwegian international midfielder is facing scans after being hurt in the midweek bounce game against Dunfermline.
The 23-year-old was certain to start in new boss Russell Martin’s first competitive game against the Greek cracks on Tuesday night.
Former Wigan and Luton ace Aasgaard started in a full-strength side for the 4-1 win over the Pars on Tuesday afternoon.
But he suffered a setback and is now facing a race against time to be ready for the second qualifying round first leg.
It’s understood Gers chiefs are relieved that Aasgaard is not facing a longer absence after the injury blow.
Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron have been added to the midfield options of the serial losers from last season with Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence moving out as free agents and still unable to find new clubs.
Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers have yet to play in any friendlies this season with Martin’s side only playing one public match before the Greeks visit Ibrox on Tuesday.

Wrapping up Laurel&Hardy aka the Morrocan Messi and Serial Loser not wanting to take the chance that they pick up an injury and F**K up the possibility of mega-mullions ££££££s coming into the klub in transfer fee cash.
