Celtic are reported to have had three bids for Jakob Breum rejected by Go-Ahead Eagles.
Last season the Danish u-21 internationalist scored 10 goals and created six assists across 26 matches totaling 2067 minutes in the Eredivisie with Go Ahead winning the Dutch Cup Final to earn a place in the Europa League.
Like all clubs outside of the big three in Holland Go Ahead don’t pay big wages or transfer fees but they are well aware of the value of players that impress in the Eredivisie.
Since the turn of the year Celtic have sold Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn with Brendan Rodgers using recent media conferences to highlight the loss of goals from the forward areas in his squad.
Tonight The Celtic Way reports:
Celtic have had three approaches turned down by Go Ahead Eagles to sign winger Jakob Breum, reports The Herald’s Stephen McGowan.
The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 31 appearances for the Eredivisie side last season.
Eagles are waiting to see whether Celtic return to the table with a fourth offer.
Their initial bid was £1.5 million. That was soon upped to £1.75m plus add-ons, before another offer of £3m was knocked back.
The Dutch Cup holders have placed a price tag of €7.5m (£6.5m) on Breum.
Having sold Nicolas Kuhn to Como for €19m Celtic could pick up Breum and still have €10m profit on their winger deals- and release Marco Tilio to Rapid Vienna with an option for that deal to be made permanent.
With the SPFL Premiership season starting a week today Rodgers has already missed out on the opportunity to introduce players to his squad and ideas during seven pre-season friendlies.
The next deadline is August 14 for Celtic’s Champions League squad although two changes can be made before 11pm on the night before the first leg is played.

We expect TOP DOLLAR fur our players but want replacements fur PEANUTS! BISCUIT TIN BASTARD BOARD!!
Exactly! If BR wants this player get him in. Stop looking across the city to see what they are doing. Make our squad stronger.
The board are quite right to low ball Go Ahead.
After all, every extra needless penny paid out on transfers means a reduction in their yearly bonuses.
Why should they be deprived of their hard earned remunerations by some chancers from the lowlands ?

Fair play if Go Ahead leaked the details: won’t look good – at all – if our Board can’t secure the player now.
And we can all probably guess how PL would have reacted,
if the opening bid for Kuhn had been similarly miserly, at say £5M ?
This source sounds dubious as Celtic usually include a kicker of a sell on percentage fee ???????
So if it is £3m+ 20% (sof) then another million on top should clinch it…..

Editor: The source is as solid as they come, and he’s not finding this out from the Dutch club.

I thought McGowan was a pal of PL and getting stories for the pro-board faction ?
is that not now the case ?
who is the solid source ?
if there is one, i am a dutchman
Editor: There has been a recent deflection campaign to put the transfer blame on a long term Non Executive Director, fits the bill.
I have said it before and I will say it again. A board like no other!!!
If either Lawwell or Nicholson had a brain they would realise that Go Ahead realise Celtic are taking them for mugs and so they will reciprocate in kind, which is why the price will go up as it has already. Celtic could already have secured this player if they had approached what the the club wanted, with some decent negotiation. Celtic are taking the piss, like they did last summer and winter. Clubs have now got our measure. We overpaid for both Engels and Idah, when we could have snapped them up for a lesser initial asking price.
Clubs now know these two are shysters!
He is not a winger
Is Frank Spencer our chief transfer negotiator?
