It took Jude Bonnar just eight minutes to make an impact on Ayr United after joining the Championship club on loan from Celtic.
Scott Brown’s side were leading Arbroath 2-0 but had created and missed a handful of chances when Bonnar was sent on in the 66th minute.
Eight minutes later the ball broke his way 25 yards from goal. As a defender approached he took the ball to his right then from the edge of the penalty box curled an unstoppable shot high into the net.
It was the goal that Ayr were looking for, building on their 6-1 win at Annan in midweek they have full points from their first two matches, with Forfar at home on Tuesday a win would send them to St Mirren on Saturday knowing that a draw would see them through as group winners.
Last Saturday Arbroath beat St Mirren on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Bonnar played for Celtic in the 1-0 friendly win over Queens Park but wasn’t in the squad that travelled to Cork then on to Portugal.
It is unclear if Bonnar has joined Ayr as part of a Co-operation deal or if it is a standard loan.
