John Beaton will referee Celtic’s match at Aberdeen on Sunday.
For back up the SFA have appointed Andrew Dallas for VAR duty, it is almost a full house for the Lanarkshire Refereeing Association with Graham Stewart one of the Beaton’s assistant.
In 2017 Stewart resigned from Police Scotland after being fined £500 for assault, that hasn’t hampered his SFA income stream which is almost at full time levels.

“A moment of madness cost him his career. The SFA must have decided his crime conviction had nothing to do with his football role.”
Beaton is well known to Brendan Rodgers who served a one match touchline ban in March 2024 after calling out the man from the Crown Bar in Bellshill as incompetent following his VAR decisions in a 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle.
Following that suspension the SFA put Beaton in charge of three of the next four Glasgow Derbies, for the other clash he was on VAR duty at the Scottish Cup Final.
Sunday’s match is bound to be given the big build up as a rematch of the Scottish Cup Final, last night Aberdeen kicked off the new campaign with a 2-0 defeat away to Hearts.
After refereeing Celtic’s SPFL opener against St Mirren Don Robertson will be at Ibrox on Saturday for the visit of Dundee.

The Wrong people are in charge of our club , there is too many stumbling blocks gathered in front of us each season and they appear to be mounting up and yet again our board just sit back and do nothing.
It is bad enough that we leave our managers situation roll on and give him no incoming transfers but it is increasingly more likely that we will not get CL qualification and get near another league title, the frustration is building up . Falkirk game I would not purchase any tickets show our board we mean business .

So if the protests are to start then start them now,stay away from the European qualifier,get the fear of God put into that board.

Well said Jim,I don’t know what planet JC is on but sevco gave us a showing up last season,they just have to up it against the other teams and it’s game on,and our board don’t give a fuck, even with 100 million they won’t strengthen us.

We complain about refs ,they then get the next three Glasgow derby games ,they complain and ref in question (collum)is taken out of their fixture rota then effectively binned ,his head of refs jobs is a millstone round his neck ,it’ll drag him down enough for them to then bin him ,
SFA setting out their “anti Celtic” stall early then!! It’s going to be another fun season.
The Lanarkshire Refereemasonic Association no longer has the clout it used to have. They have been royally supplanted by Desmond, Lawwell and Co.
