Celtic’s transfer activity seems to have had a focus on central defence with Viktor Eriksson of Hammerby a new name linked with the hoops on Thursday.

Transfer specialist Alan Nixon claimed that Paul Tisdale was in Sweden yesterday to watch Eriksson in Conference League action for Hammarby against Charleroi.

It turned out to be an eventful night with the Celtic target emerging as the hero with a 119th minute winner to send the Swedes through to the Third Qualifying round.

A fee of £2m was reported in The Sun, Eriksson seems to be in strong form this season with Hammarby second in the Swedish table with the defender picking up his first international cap in June against Finland.

More predictably Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is expected in Glasgow today to complete the final stages of a loan move from Manchester City.

At the age of 19 he comes with an impressive profile but just 95 minutes of EPL experience from two appearances as City went through something of a crisis in the winter.

Although most areas of the Celtic team could be strengthened not many fans viewed central defence as a priority.

Auston Trusty and Dane Murray have both had impressive pre-seasons with Cameron Carter-Vickers featuring in both matches at the Como Cup after undergoing knee surgery during the close season.

Brendan Rodgers will host a media conference to preview Sunday’s match against St Mirren with Sky Sports likely to get an exclusive one-to-one with the Celtic manager.

While Sunday’s match is of obvious interest the bigger picture is Celtic’s transfer activity and preparations for the new season.

Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio have been strongly linked with moves away but with no wingers arriving both of those summer 2023 signings are likely to be in the squad to face St Mirren with Yang a possible starter.

There appears to have been no developments relating to Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakob Breum with the last news being that Odense, his former club have a 25% sell on clause, accompanied by claims that the price tag on the Danish u-21 winger drops significantly next summer.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

If only Celtic FC was as quick in recruiting new players as it is to dishing out suspended game bans to the Green Brigade, fans in general would be very happy ?
