Conor Coady is set to turn his back on a dream move to Ibrox in favour of lowly Wrexham!

The Welsh club has never played in the EPL, in season 22/23 they won the National League ahead of clubs such as Solihull Motors and Dorking Wanderers, following that with successive promotions from League One and League Two.

Over the last two months Coady has apparently been on the brink of a sensational switch to Ibrox, playing at the stadium of his boyhood heroes.

Now it seems that Wrexham’s rich owners have blown Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe out of the water despite apparently having the billions of the San Francisco 49ers to draw on.

At 22.35 last night Sky Sports News reported:

Wrexham are close to agreeing a double transfer swoop to sign Leicester City’s Conor Coady and Sheffield United forward Kieffer Moore.

It’s understood negotiations for Coady accelerated on Thursday following a £2m bid and talks were progressing well.

There is believed to be a willingness from all parties to come to an agreement soon.

Coady has one year remaining on his current Leicester contract and Sky Sports News revealed last month that Rangers had made an approach for the player.

The Daily Record has been pushing and exploring the story from every angle since launching the Russell Revolution.

Jermain Defoe was on pundit duty with Coady at the u-21 Euros and told the Record how the Leicester defender pure loved ‘Rangers’ and spent most of his waking hours staring at his mobile waiting for Kev Thelwell’s name to show up.

Coady spent the 23/24 season on loan at Everton where he apparently became besties with Thelwell with both of them regularly discussing linking up  in the future alongside James Tavernier, John Souttar and Connor Barron.

At 5.45pm, ahead of his appearance on the Daily Record hotline Keith Jackson explained:

Rangers are still in the driving seat to land Conor Coady – if they press ahead with the transfer.

Gers have been locked in talks with Leicester City over a move for the former England international.

But Record Sport understands Foxes boss Marti Cifuentes has been refusing to sanction an exit for the 32-year-old.

If the money is right any exit will be sanctioned.

Coady, 32, is understood to be keen on a switch to Ibrox after being identified by Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell as a possible marquee signing.

Possible is the word. Anything is possible.

Hopefully the Wrexham deal will be confirmed today leaving the Record to backtrack with a far fetched excuse for the 49GERS being unable to complete the deal for their marquee signing.

Meanwhile no bids have been received for Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane, Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, Jose Cifuentes or Ross McCausland.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
