Conor Coady has signed for Wrexham in a £2m move from Leicester City.
It isn’t the sort of news that the Daily Record’s army of readers were expecting.
For six weeks they have been told and reassured that the deal was almost in place, a marquee signing to bring everything together in the Russell Revolution.
Kevin Thelwell and Coady were besties after a season on loan at Everton, young Conor had been pictured in a Rangers kit as a kid with all sorts of cryptic messages on social media leading to the conclusion that the 32-year-old was about to complete a dream move to Ibrox.
An interview with Jermain Defoe revealed that Coady had grilled him for the Ibrox lowdown while on pundits duty covering the u-21 Euros.
It was all set up brilliantly- and then.
Conor has a message for you, Reds ?

It seems that a £2m fee and EPL wages for Coady was too much for the 49GERS to come up with after splashing out £3.5m on Manny Fernandez from Peterborough.
Meanwhile there is little sign of players moving out of Ibrox with the only progress being to send Ross McCausland out on loan to the green and whites of ARIS Limassol.
With a month left in the transfer window Ben Davies, Kieran Dowell, Jose Cifuentes, Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo are still draining the wage bill with the 49GERS still to receive their first transfer fee.
Hamza Igamane will miss today’s match away to Motherwell due to a mystery knock picked up during a 15 minute appearance against Panathinaikos 10 days ago.

Are you happy with Celtic's transfer activity
Absolutely- fantastic business
I will judge on September 1
Horrific- feels like 2023 again

Guys called Conor playing for Sevco….??… Never thought I’d see that day…Mind ye … ah never thought ah’d see half the team blessing themselves coming onto the pitch…Big Amaruso was told to do it in the dressing room…And yet the songs of hate continue…Strange bunch of peepul.
They done the same with that Poku lad
Chugged over him every day for weeks
Then when he signed for QPR
Total silence
Actually wudny mind seeing some “Celtic snubbed” stories in the media.
Would mean we’re actually goin after after some players wouldn’t it.
Agree mate. The only things we have seen being snubbed on our side are Lawell’s pathetic, insulting, lowball offers for the few players whose clubs we actually have approached. Oh and our manager’s increasingly desperate, unheeded requests to get some decent, quality, non-project, first team ready signings in.
I’m just so glad that I don’t insult what little intelligence I possess by buying that Scummy nor any of the rest of them either for that matter !
The mighty Wrexham over the mighty sevco, and sevco with that money as well.
The guy was never going there in the first place, just the daily stringing the BENJAMINS along.
What a sorry state we find our club in at this time not financially but with everything else,it’s all going tit’s up.
Meanwhile sevco continue to strengthen on a daily basis with another £3 million paid out for winger from Go Ahead Eagles,so much for them being SKINT and us apparently loaded, anyone would think it was the other way about.
That’s 9 signings they have made so far with a month still left of the transfer window, no doubt there will be more, and spare me the pish they need to get of shot players, they seem to be doing not a bad job so far holding on to players and bringing more in.
Sevco at this time are going top of the league, now we are doing the chasing which suits our board perfectly they need this league to neck&neck, otherwise sevco collapse and Celtic Park goes back yo closing the top tiers of the stadium,AGAIN.
Celtic Ins – 7 and another announced tomorrow
2nd Rangers – 9 – six tranfers and 3 loans.
if they go top of a 4 teams played league what of it ?
see where they are on tuesday morning.
this 2nd half, they have been absolutely shite.
Newco Rangers targets Harry Darling, Emirhan Demircan, Josh Mulligan, Kwame Poku, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Jamie Vardy and Conor Coady seemingly didn’t want to follow follow the path to enlightenment or impoverishment.
