The Daily Record is trying to convince their readers that there is a £5m bid for Jefte coming in from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Last summer the Record was spinning summer tales about the massive fees for Sam Lammers, Todd Cantwell and Connotr Goldson before the club accounts revealed that just £810,000 had been received for that trio plus Scott Wright and Robbie McCrorie.

By default Jefte became last season’s first choice left-back at Ibrox, keeping his place during rare bouts of availability from Ridvan Yilmaz is not the greatest endorsement.

Defending isn’t a strength, being posted missing defensively brought back fond memories of Borna Barisic.

Attack wise he made 33 SPFL appearances, scoring one goal and providing four assists. At the second best team in the country those aren’t the sort of stats to excite scouts and spreadsheet geeks.

In trademark style the Record reports:

Brazilian club Palmeiras have opened talks with Rangers over a potential deal for Jefte – according to reports.

From a source that knows that type of content is going to be scooped up in Scotland.

The wing-back has played in three of Gers competitive matches so far this season and has made back to back starts against Dundee in the Premiership and Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League.

But Brazilian transfer guru Andre Hernan claims that talks are ongoing to bring the 21-year-old back to his homeland.

A guru unknown to the Record’s Army of Readers before producing the goods on Jefte.

He claims that Palmeiras chiefs are determined to land the Jefte, who was signed for Gers from Fluminense by Phillippe Clement last summer after catching the eye in a loan spell in Cyprus with APOEL.

Hernan adds that landing Jefte could cost the Brazilian club as much as €6million (£5.1million), with the player still under contract at Ibrox until June 2028.

Getting their money back on the £900,000 paid for Jefte last summer would be a great outcome for the 49GERS, anyone interested in Jefte are likely to be also informed of the availability of Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo, Clinton Nsiala, Jose Cifuentes, Yilmaz and others.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Also worth noting that the majority of deals are NOT paid in one lump sum, so potential £ 5m deal might be £ 1m per year over 5 x years. Plus the player himself would expect a good % of his current contract to be paid up.

He’d be a good siginin for a Brazilian Boxing Club given the way he smashed Kühn in the face in front of a cheat with a flag at Liebrox and got away with it…

Anyway job done – Kühn was never the same thereafter !

A club who can negotiate a £1m sell on fee for a player who isn’t and has never had a contract with the club can easily get £5m for…… Never mind, I’ll get ma kagool.

Rumour has it that Jefte has been offered a nice hair gel product contract in Brazil to tempt him home again ? He’s the only guy I’ve ever seen play with gunge gel on his napper ….as he takes the field ? Pity the ‘ slickness ‘ doesn’t apply to his playing ? Where’s ma Brylcreem ?
