Hugh Keevins has done his bit to clarify matters over Celtic’s transfer strategy.
According to the veteran broadcaster Peter Lawwell has ‘nothing whatsoever to do with transfers’ at Celtic. That’s listeners to Radio Clyde told.
Keevins got that news early one morning after repeating a claim made by a caller to Super Scoreboard about the Celtic Chairman in the Sunday Mail.
Lawwell is believed to be an avid reader of old media, made it clear that he had nothing to do with transfer business at Celtic.
In October 2003 Lawwell was appointed CEO of Celtic on a salary of £248,941 with turnover of £69m.
During the 2018/19 financial year he collected £3.55m with turnover raised to £83.4m, a rise of £14.4m over a period of 14 years.
With recruitment at Celtic appearing to be subject to a managed decline the issue of the Chairman came up on Super Scoreboard last night with Keevins quick to stand up for his early morning phone caller.
? “Liam Scales should be a JOINER!”
? “Peter Lawwell has personally assured me that he has NOTHING whatsoever to do with transfers…”

Lets be honest about Peter Lawwell first of all, Peter Lawwell has personally assured me that he has nothing whatsoever to do with transfers, nothing at all.
He may be the Chairman of the club but he has told me, and in no uncertain terms, that he has nothing to do with transfers.
So you are looking at Michael Nicholson who is the CEO and all of those in the Recruitment Department.
At the 2019 Celtic AGM Lawwell told shareholders that he had never read the 2012 Five (six) Way Agreement which gave Charles Green’s Tribute Act their own set of laws within Scottish football.
Other than the fantastically successful 72 day reign of Dom McKay in the summer of 2021 everyone employed by Celtic was appointed or promoted by Lawwell or Michael Nicholson.
In May 2013 Lawwell appointed Nicholson as Company Secretary, he had never previously worked for a football club, for 11 years he learned from Lawwell, 72 days after big Peter left Nicholson took over as CEO.
In May 2022 Mark Lawwell was appointed as Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment, in January 2023 Peter was appointed Chairman.
Questioned at the 2023 AGM about whether it was good governance to have a former CEO appointed as Chairman 18 months after stepping down Nicholson said that there was no substitute for experience.
At the same AGM Lawwell explained why he had never read the Five Way Agreement of 2012.
From the summer of 2018 with Lawwell as CEO Celtic signed Youssouf Mulumbu, Boli Bolingoli, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Vakoun Bayo, Patryck Klimala, Ismaila Soro, Albian Ajeti and Vasilas Barkas on permanent deals. Oli Burke, Diego Laxalt and Shane Duffy were signed on loan.
NOTE: Celtic do of course have a fantastically successful Player Trading Model that is admired by clubs across Europe, especially Malmo, Maribor, AEK Athens, Cluj, Ferencvaros and Midtjylland.
Does Brendan Rodgers have grounds for resigning on September 2?
NO- He must see out his contract
YES- He has been badly let down

Aye,right keevins, the other one has bell’s, the big brother spectre of lawell is always watching over, EVERYTHING
So now we’re expected to believe that a chairman of a football club, lifting fortunes in salary every year, is quite happy to sit back and watch the CEO and other board members screw up recruitment to the detriment of the squad, and just claim “ I have absolutely nothing to do with transfers”.
Is that the role of a chairman?
To just step back and say “ nothing to do with me” and watch the club be weakened due to their weaknesses?
What Keevins suggests actually makes PL look even more ridiculous.
The two people with the power to change things are getting off Scot-Free.
Dermott Desmond has to be happy with the focus on profit or he would do something about it.
Brenden Rodgers has the power to change team selection and tactic but is happy with the same deadbeats every week.
The reason Celtic always score in the final minutes is because the players start to feel the crowd’s anger and actually move about a bit. Watch tomorrow what percentage of passes are made from a standing position when a few years ago they were known for all out aggression and overrunning teams.
The players will not run with or off the ball. Laziness is at the heart of the team.
There is only one man who can do something about it and is plan ‘A’ usually means subbing like for like..
I would love someone to come on here and detail why they believe BR is an “elite” manager. He was even described by someone as “world class”.
I believe his main talent, like that of Scales, is that he is Irish.
Name me the last time we had a better manager than BR….bet you have to go back a fair bit, maybe the 60’s?
Postecogleu …Strachan…O’Neill ..Are they not in the hunt ?…
If u base how great a mgr is by his success at the club there is only one man who us in front of BR, if ur suggesting Ange and Strachan are as good or better then u hv an agenda, its as simple or a plain dislike of the man.
And you talk crap…cheerio.
Just saying it doesn’t make it so.
Here is a list of quick fixes that would improve the team and probably 90% of the fans would like to see.
1. Tierney pinging those crosses to Maeda at CF with Idah to pick up the scraps.
2. Macgregor playing forward and running off the ball into dangerous spaces which he only does ten minutes to go if we are in need of a goal.
3, McCowan starting.
4. Hatate sold for whatever they can get
5. Engels sold for what ever we can get.
6, Shoot when you see the whites of their eyes
I asked for reasons not just a statement of support for BR. As far as I can see he puts out the same team and tactics each week and sits back and takes the money.
Tierney limped off last week, and I doubt we’ll get 20 games outta him.
Gr8 player I like very much but unfortunately he’s brittle.
Aye, who’d have thunk KT would be out injured?
As much as I do like him and appreciate the success he delivered first time round,
this was a sentimental – and a relatively cheap – signing, which simply shouldn’t have happened?
Having nothing to do with the transfers doesn’t mean you don’t dictate transfer policy. Does he think we are all stupid!!!
Editor: Bear in mind who he was phoning that Sunday morning.
I was going to comment on his 5 Way Agreement statement…but that pesky pig is flying past the window again…Need to go.
Not one of them seems to know nothing about transfers this season !
