Scott Burns delivers Celtic transfer update

Celtic are still spinning plates in the transfer window with Michel-Ange Balikwisha remaining a target.

The Royal Antwerp winger has been linked with a move to Celtic in previous transfer windows but with less than four weeks to run in the summer window there is little concrete evidence of a transfer underway.

Scott Burns is the most solid and reliable transfer source at the Daily Record, in an update today there was little to suggest that Celtic are on the brink of breaking into the £20m surplus that the current window has built up.

At 12.14 on the Record’s LIVE transfer blog Burns is quoted saying:

Michel-Ange Balikwisha remains a target. Celtic are spinning a number of plates and it will come down to where they feel they can get best value for money. They have brought in a couple of Japanese players and my understanding is there is another potential move still in the offing from that market. A couple of European-based are also being looked at in person.

With the competitive action starting with a 1-0 win over St Mirren and a UEFA Champions League Play Off just two matches away most fans will be concerned by the spinning plates claim. Definite targets and negotiations underway would be expected at this point.

As soon as one transfer window closes work begins on the next one, looking at your own player contracts and taking note of outside interest.

Como made it known before the end of last season that they were keen on signing Nicolas Kuhn, once Jota suffered a long term injury in the title clincher away to Dundee United at the end of April you would have expected signing a competent or quality winger, or two to be a priority.

Ben Nygren is an example of advance planning, signing an emerging internationalist in the last six months of his contract while Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada were examples of revisiting a market which had been used previously.

Ross Doohan and Kieran Tierney have replaced Scott Bain and Greg Taylor with Callum Osmond brought in with the future in mind, he isn’t Moussa Dembele.

On Tuesday Celtic announced that Jahmai Simpson-Pusey had been signed on a season long loan but eight days before the deadline to register players for the Champions League Play Off there are still numerous positions that Rodgers wants to see filled.

The Celtic boss is expected to host a media conference on Friday, it is likely that there will be more interest and questions in transfer dealings that Sunday’s match away to Aberdeen.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

“comes down to where they get best value for money”
As does every feckin thing wi this club.
In fact, they’d rather spend no money than risk getting no value for the money they did.
    Reprehensible behaviour from paid staff.

“Scott Burns is the most solid and reliable transfer sourcec at the Daily Record..” Not a strong field to choose from, Joe. Okay, my turn: Lenny Henry is the funniest guy in his house.

For Christ sakes don’t let the Hagi rumour have a semblance of truth to it …please ! He’s a daddy’s boy child with a petted lip the size of Romania ! If it turns out to be true Celtic is interested in him… then the lunatics are running the asylum ….those ‘ greys ‘in the boardroom would be full blown nut jobs . God almighty ..the guy is a hopeless spoiled brat who tosses the dummy out the pram for the least thing .As my granny used to say ” your arse in parsley ! “

I won’t touch transfer speculation any more it’s just too frustrating and we all know why and precisely who to blame.
But, in another world……… Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust are organising a huge and interesting demo against the current owner Dejphon Shansiri. They’re doing it away at Leicester City (with City’s concurrence) and the match is televised by Sky and it’ll clearly hit a wider audience. I wish them every success. Get the spivs and chancers outae fitba!
I don’t know much detail but I think it’s all about money and how it’s allocated. (any bells ringing?)
It’s one to watch and hope for success and then start a proper plan to rid Celtic FC of its leeches and fleas in the PLC Boardroom.
    There’s another angle here too!
Let’s bombard SWST and SWSCs with details of how you can get into huge debt, go bust, yet still be the “same club absolutely” as there’s a European precedent just south of the Clyde. The words in inverted commas are those of a piece of shit parading himself as a CEO of the SFA and supposedly with a legal background?

Well that’s fair cheered me up , now knowing we are at the spinning plates stage of the transfer window .

Unfortunately something tells me our risk averse profiteers will be putting a fair chunk of cash aside for new crockery for when the plate come crashing down

Talking about SCUDDINGS I’m dreading the trip to sevco land in a couple ilof weeks, all the momentum is with them.

Will say it now, on what Ive seen so far, there is no way we go there and get anything.
They are hungrier, they are a unit, they have 2 or even 3 players capable of changing a game.
It’s early days but it’s obvious.
PL is a megalomaniac, until he is removed from the club entirely, nothing will change, but that also has the caveat that DD has to follow him out the door.
There is absolutely no way DD is not aware of the situation, and if he can move heaven & earth to get BR into the club, why isn’t the same importance placed on playing personnel?
How many times in the last decade have we spoke on these blogs about the obvious problems and predicted calamity, and it happens….yet people who take 800k a yr out of the club can’t see the same?
Nothing will ever convince me it isn’t managed decline to meet OF criteria.
What else could it be? They are all fucking useless?
      It stinks.
