After a day of spectacular humiliation in the transfer market Celtic will attempt to sign free agent Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of tonight’s 11pm UEFA deadline.

With Brendan Rodgers attempting to hold on to Adam Idah until a replacement is brought in attention turned to Kasper Dolberg of Anderlecht.

Late on Monday morning it seemed that the Danish striker wasn’t so keen on joining Celtic, later on it emerged that a return to Ajax was in the pipeline.

At that stage Celtic switched attention to David Datro Fofana, one of many players surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

That interest was quickly closed down when Charlton Athletic showed an interest, around the same time Swansea announced the signing of Idah meaning that three of Celtic’s top four scorers from last season had been sold since the turn of the year with the Irishman joining Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn as former Celts.

Late on Monday Iheanacho came to an agreement to cancel his Sevilla contract.

Just like in January, post Kyogo, Celtic are showing interest in Iheanacho, on that occasion he opted to join Middlesbrough where he scored once in 15 appearance that totalled 767 minutes.

With Sevilla he failed to score in nine appearances covering 401 minutes.

Late on Monday night Celtic did announce the signing of Seb Tounetki from Hammerby, all eyes will now be on Iheanacho with the former Leicester striker taking a very strong hand into negotiations as a free agent.

Brendan Rodgers isn’t scheduled to speak to the media until September 12 when he previews the away match at Kilmarnock which follows the winter break.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Probably take to the next window to get the deal done , a shower of charlatans not fit for their positions at celtic, get rid of the lot of them, a free agent that can’t score , that’s this boards final act of betrayal.

  • Deano says:

Please scrap said talks as he’s a complete fucking diddy, runs like he’s towing a 747 and has a scoring record that Johnny Kenny could laugh at. What a mess we’re in; no spark, creativity or flair, manager ready to bolt again and a board who couldn’t care less.

Nicholson, Lawwell and Desmond- enemies of progress, get them out.

  • Pilgrim73 says:

Pathetic, complete failure from board and recruitment team. Brendan left to WhatsApp former players in the hope of getting a striker in the door. This isn’t even bargain bin. It’s a charity shop signing #sacktheboard

  • Martin says:

Rodgers is working his ticket as we speak but he’s been ROYALLY SHAFTED by the Tory Bastard Board!

Over the top comments the players we didn’t get went to bigger leagues not clubs our board has to sell spl to these players yes clampion league make a difference not many players come to Celtic to stay they know its a great shop window we are on tv most weekends and during weekbin European games we are still in Europe with some tasty games for our supporters and players 60,000 nearly every home game we cant do anything about low allocation our club get for away games that look three quarters full and its worst half full but we still come cause its in our blood

Gross negligence on behalf of ALL shareholders so someone MUST be held to account

Absolutely NO excuses for leaving such dealings until the last minute and not preparing properly.

No ALL eyes must be on January window
AZ Alkmaar have a very good striker 22 y.o. attracting attention of Inter Milan / Barca so a chance to beat them to the punch

The problem with Desmond is he is not an employee or official. We cant sack him, his holding is such that he does have control of what’s going on so the board is chock full of his men. If he was that ruthless and didn’t like what we are seeing, Lawell and Nicholson would have been gone long before now. I fear we are in for a long and tiresome battle with a man who is known for having contempt for “entitled fans”. Its our money in that bank account, you are damn right we are entitled to see a better stewardship of OUR club and the investment of OUR money. We should be so far in front of Sevco that it would kill them, why we are pain for their sins and the sins of the club before them is anyone’s guess. No one would have given us a leg up if we had gone into admin in the 90s never mind died completely, so why do we care about them. The SPL should be a minor distraction to our Champions League focus. By all means consult on how to improve the Scottish game for everyone, but ffs dont level down to give the appearance of leveling others up.
