Celtic’s B team lost 5-4 away to Alloa Athletic in an incredible SPFL Challenge Cup tie this afternoon.
Despite having a difficult time in the Lowland League, losing 5-1 last Saturday at Linlithgow Rose, a slightly older and stronger side has started the SPFL Challenge Cup with away wins over Clyde and Kelty Hearts.
Kyle Ure and Jude Bonnar returned to Celtic from their Co-operative loan with Ayr United and were involved in the opening goal in the 33rd minute when an inswinging cross from Ure dropped into the net at the far post with the home keeper distracted by the presence of Bonnar.
Alloa equalised in the 40th minute then took the lead in the 51st minute but a purple patch before the hour saw Celtic race into a 4-2 lead with goals from Bonnar, Sean McArdle and Ben Summers.

The four goalscorers linked up brilliantly to open up Alloa, showing real class and composure with their finishing, any watching Championship manager will be working hard to get McArdle and Summers out on loan.
A 4-2 lead should have seen Celtic home and hosed but up against experienced forwards led by Connor Sammon Alloa refused to give up with goals in the 60th, 68th and 87th minutes giving them a win.
Celtic’s B team are next in action on Wednesday when they host Stirling University in the Lowland League at their Airdrie base.
