Ten weeks after losing the Scottish Cup Final to Aberdeen the transfer window has closed with the Celtic team weaker than the side that trooped off as losers at Hampden to an Aberdeen team that hasn’t won in the SPFL Premiership since April.

Even by the low standards of Celtic transfer windows this one has been a spectacular act of self harm. Too server to describe as a managed decline, some suggest sabotage and it is hard to counter that.

After selling Kyogo Furuhashi in January Celtic needed a striker as a priority. Michael Nicholson doubled down by selling Adam Idah on transfer deadline day with no first team ready strikers signed up.

Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand are the latest in a long line of punts and projects.

Nicolas Kuhn was sold in early July with no replacement right winger brought in.

Greg Taylor was replaced by Kieran Tierney, last seasons stop gap back ups of Alex Valle and Jeff Schlupp have been replaced by another loan signing in Marcelo Saracchi.

A random Twitter account can identify players in the age range and price bracket to improve Celtic, the club’s recruitment team probably did the same but once they reached Michael Nicholson the deals died.

Nicholson expects to sell for top dollar then buy for scraps, an initial offer of £1.5m for Jakob Breum can be taken apart at all sorts of levels.

Under Peter Lawwell Celtic did business with a select group of agents, under Nicholson it seems that the club is a basket case for clubs, agents and players to avoid, they don’t know how the game is played.

Rodgers is unlikely to comment until a week on Friday when he previews the match away to Kilmarnock, inbetween times Nicholson will be earning the praise of the directors for delivering a £20m transfer surplus to send the bank balance back above the £100m mark.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

The only logical reason a CEO would sanction those 2 sales
    – to leave the team without a recognised striker –
is if the club was DESPERATE for money, and needed to keep the lights on.

Obviously, that doesn’t apply to our cash rich club.

Someone at the club, [like the grossly overpaid CEO],
has to explain the rationale behind those 2 particular player sales.

The support deserves at least that…?

Everyone of the players named were willing to come to Celtic and play in the spfl?

  • Con says:

Don’t sign until you’ve seen managed decline.

  • Eldraco says:

No matter what happens from here on out no matter who they sign , what they do they have destroyed a covenant between support and club. Its done.
