The first steps have been taken to sack Russell Martin and bring in a new management team at Ibrox.

On Sunday word went out to the messengers that Andrew Cavenagh has phoned Martin to confirm that he won’t be sacked on the back of a defeat from Hearts that leaves the Tribute Act sitting in 10th place in the SPFL Premiership table.

Keith Jackson is still basking in the glory of getting EXCLUSIVE news of the summer takeover, unfortunately it wasn’t the San Francisco 49ers who weighed in but a consortium led by the mysterious Cavenagh.

In Monday’s Daily Record Jackson put all of the blame for Martin’s appointment on Kev Thelwell, to such an extent that CEO Paddy Stewart wasn’t even mentioned.

Tonight, on the Record’s Hotline podcast Jackson broke the news that Ibrox fans have been hoping for:

I understand that phone calls are being made, back-channelling is going on, and Rangers are currently speaking to and sounding out potential alternatives should they decide they can no longer back Russell Martin.

It sounds to me very much like they are looking to put something in place in case they are forced into taking action this weekend when Rangers play Hibs in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

They’ve got to be doing this, it shouldn’t really come as any major surprise. But it does underline the perilous nature of Russell Martin’s position.

The stage is now set for Stewart to claim the glory in getting rid of Martin as the annual autumn hunt for a new manager gets underway a few weeks earlier than usual.

New Chairman Cavenagh is expected to be at Saturday’s match in the League Cup against Hibs, the third time he’ll have watched the soccer club that he effectively owns and runs.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
